Raycast AI - Which models are you using?

Raycast keeps adding new models every week.

I use @Anthropic's Claude 3.7 Sonnet when coding and @OpenAI's o3-mini when speed matters. Curious what works best for the community.

What model are you using and why?

I usually use Grok 3 for most of my coding projects, especially when dealing with large code files that ChatGPT can’t generate and for deep research. However, I use ChatGPT-4o for debugging. For web searches, I use Perplexity.

@yossefaymanzedan definitely have to give Grok 3 a spin! how do you define the best models for your use cases?

@fmerian I typically choose models based on the complexity and nature of the task. When working with large codebases, especially when I need to refactor or modify a section that has downstream effects, Grok-3 performs exceptionally well. Instead of manually tracing dependencies and debugging ripple effects, I often pass the entire file to Grok-3 and let it regenerate a consistent version. This saves significant time and reduces potential bugs. If something in Grok-3’s output doesn’t work as expected, I switch to ChatGPT-4o to quickly analyze the issue and identify what went wrong. Once I have a working fix, I pass the updated logic back to Grok-3, and it regenerates the full file with the fix integrated. That way, I avoid spending 10 to 15 minutes manually editing the file, Grok-3 usually handles it in a minute or two. For real-time information or fast web-based insights, I rely on Perplexity. Each model plays a specific role in my workflow depending on the task and requirements.

I just upgraded to Pro for @Raycast this week so I haven't had a ton of experience playing around with the AI features. I'm just using the default currently for everything which seems to be GPT-4o mini.

I've mainly been using it for summarizing web pages which has been really nice (shoutout to @chrismessina for that tip!) but I'm still digging in to other use cases. I definitely want to check back here and see how others are using different models for different use cases.

I've been using Ray-1 and Ray Mini mostly, actually — and am eager try using more AI tools.

Basically use Sonnet 3.7 for everything. Tools like flux for image generation are great too. Let's see when the new openai image generation drops though 🤞
