Did Raycast just get sherlocked?
@Apple just announced the new macOS Tahoe 26, which included the "biggest Spotlight update ever." From the outside, it feels like they essentially built Raycast into Spotlight.
Raycast's CEO, @thomaspaulmann reacted in a long-form X post. This quote really struck me:
While Apple catches up to 2019 Raycast, we're already shipping 2025 Raycast.
Curious how the community feels about it?
Full disclosure: I'm definitely team Raycast

Raycast is still ahead. The extension store, the focus on community developers, the speed of releases, all of it adds up to a product that Apple can't easily replicate. Even with all their resources, Apple tends to play it safe. Raycast takes risks, and that’s why it’s beloved.
Yes Apple has macOS 26 (Tahoe) adds Spotlight actions, clipboard history, shortcuts and local file/app commands that mimic Raycast features Power users on Reddit agree it may cover basic use cases, though Raycast’s deeper integrations and extensions still future‑proof it . Spotlight now nibbles at Raycast’s territory but for power users, the third party tool still holds values.
IMO. Raycast should go all in on MCP. Do a reboot, doing both legacy features and MCP will only slow things down and Claude desktop or someone well will take the product position. There is an entire universe to be built around MCP, its an endless opportunity. It's going to be bigger than the internet. And raycast can be Netscape / FireFox or even chrome for that eco-system. What a time to be alive 🚀 @fmerian @thomaspaulmann
Product Hunt
@fmerian @thomaspaulmann @sentry_co this is a spicy take! I'm actually struggling to imagine what developing an MCP would look like. It's also not a very powerful control point for the user. You're abstracted from the user via the LLM. In my opinion, a desktop app that users love is a much more preferable place to be.
@fmerian @thomaspaulmann @rajiv_ayyangar I think like. You already see these MCP leaderboards emerge. like https://mcpmarket.com/leaderboards And the way I imagine the future with this, is that we as users interact with these MCP's. Im pretty blown away already regarding what you can do with agentic MCP client apps like Claude Desktop. And also what we soon will be able to do. An entire new world opens up with this, and you just know that this is how Ai will interact with the rest of the world. AI wrappers was wave 1. MCP will be wave 2. And the MCP client plays a big role here. As it is the mediator between the AI and the external MCP that lives on CloudFlare workers for instance. So all users needs to do, is add the URL of the MCP into their Agent App. I know Raycast is already starting to add MCP support. But I think right now there is a huge opportunity to be the disruptor in this space. Obviously, Raycast has a lot of traction, and can leverage that as well. So a good place to be.
