Hi ProductHunt! I'm the maker of Qawl, and I'm really excited to finally launch! This is kind of a niche product, but I hope someone who needs it, finds it 👍 Attention to detail has been the philosophy of designing Qawl, and it's big features include: - Ultra high-quality images 🔎 - Precise, user-controlled zoom - Full offline support ☁ - Restart reading from exactly where you left-off, with the same zoom and theme - Keyboard shortcuts 🎹 - Dark theme 🌙 - One-click access to recitations, tafsir and translations (requires internet) 🖱 There are tons of other little touches to make this app special, and of course all feedback and code (this is open source!) is welcome to make this as good as it can be ❤

@mrislam, Keep up the good work. The application seems to be really good one (functionality-wise) as far as I understand the UI uses images instead of text (as it is done in quran.com)? if so it is probably not possible to change the UI, but I would recommend using different UI (brighter, colourful). It is actually very nice that there is finally a desktop app for reading the holy Quran. But again, I would prefer more colourful UI. Also, I would recommend to mention the sources that you use so people can check the validity.

@kura955 Thank you for your kind words ❤ UI wise you are exactly right, it's based on images extracted from a PDF. The PDF source is mentioned on the GitHub repo (this is it: https://archive.org/details/ar_M...) How would you suggest the UI should be more colorful? It is based off of a PDF, but I could modify the colors in the background (currently cream-yellow) or the footer bar. Do you think the dark theme is colorful enough? Again, thank you for your feedback — it's this kind of feedback that makes apps better 😊

@mrislam, The footer bar is actually good, as you've said there is not much you can do to change the design. The background I believe is better to use "#f9f9f9". The dark theme's colours actually a little bit too strong. I personally use a printed or mobile version of the Quran if I am on the go. I would use this app to listen to the Quran (currently I use quran.com, but it is a little buggy). Keep up the good work (it is very honourable thing to do) and if even one is benefiting from this app is a great achievement :)

@kura955 Will keep that in mind! Design is one aspect really dependent on user feedback, so JazakumAllahu khayran! Also, when you said "I would use this app to listen to the Quran" — could you kindly clarify what you meant? I'm not sure I understood…

@mrislam, Wa iyyakum, I meant I would listen to the surahs using an offline application with different reciters (like you can do on quran.com but this is only online).

Salaam! Interesting idea, indeed. What made you think of creating this app for desktop as opposed to mobile?

@happygezim Wassalam! I made this app for desktops, because there is already a wide selection of Qur'an apps for mobile devices — but when it comes to computers there are almost no apps that balance powerful features with a focused reading experience and beautiful interface. Quran.com only works online, Quranflash works offline but is bulky and slow with a mushaf that is blurry when zoomed in, etc. Nothing provided a balance of convenience, features and design — and so Qawl was born.
