Would it make sense to have job postings on Product Hunt?

I may be wrong, but a few years ago, job opportunities were promoted here by companies when they wanted to find someone to join their team.

👉 This is also a question for founders or companies:

Would it make sense to onboard tech-savvy or business-oriented people from here?

I often see on Reddit or similar forums how someone is trying to put together a team (e.g. also for the sake of easier access to capital from VCs and investors), to fill a job position so that the PH launch could be properly implemented.

👉 And maybe a question for the team:
Were these job offers effective for the platform before? Were advertisers successful in recruiting promising tech talents from the platform's visitors to their teams?

I think the people who are active here have a good understanding of the latest technology trends and could potentially help improve products from within the companies.

It’s a good idea in principle. But it risks diluting the platform’s core value. Job postings are notoriously tricky to moderate. Without strict vetting, fake or low-quality listings could flood the space, frustrating users and eroding trust in the community.

Nika

@mayoyo25 I think that's why it was a paid option for companies to list their jobs – it worked like a filter.

Mayoyo

@busmark_w_nika Sure, that could mitigate the fakes. Watching what the folks from Product Hunt have to say @rrhoover

Not sure, I think it will shift focus from the main idea on the platform. It is possible though to use PH for direct contact with the startup/technology you want to work with, but having job listings along side products might be too much.

Nika

@nikita_polovinkin probably yes, it would be too many purposes of the platform. It came to my mind just reading some Reddit posts when people tried to create a team.

In my opinion 💡:

Primary Purpose Difference: The primary purpose of most users coming to PH is to discover new products, not to find a job. This means your job postings need to be engaging enough to stand out from the crowd.

Competition: Good technical and business talent is in high demand everywhere.

Position Match: It is more suitable for positions that favor product, technology, design, growth, community operations, and other roles closely related to the internet and technology products. May have limited results for very traditional or non-technical positions.

Nika

@partick_support Probably true, that's why I shut it down a few years back. It was a very short period of time before I noticed it.

Launching soon!

Not just jobs, I believe partnerships , co-founding and all sorts of collaborations can flourish on PH e.g. complementary products or services could team up for mutual benefits. In case of job board, it would have to be moderated (or maybe keep it paid) to have only genuine ones.

Nika

@manu_goel2 Maybe in the distant future. I believe that when the platform will be having more visitors, people will be more interested in those top-notch products and top-notch companies/teams. Naturally, when someone/something is successful, you want to be a part of that.

Animesh
yes, sounds like a good idea. not everyone here is a builder and many of them could be looking for better opportunities.
Nika

@theanimeshs What position would you most likely apply for?

Jose Eduardo Saura

I would create a new product / platform that feeds product hunt, just to keep the value of product hunt CLEAR and focused.

Nika

@iamsaura Do you mean a separate platform outside the PH?
Or integrated to PH?

Michael Vavilov

As someone deeply involved in candidate sourcing, I can say that from an employer or recruiter's perspective, merely posting job vacancies yields minimal results. In contrast, developing an effective matching mechanism is a complex task that demands substantial investment. This raises the question for me: is this feature truly low-hanging fruit?

Nika

@michael_vavilov What would be a friendly solution for that in terms of Product Hunt? Do you offer any alternative?

Michael Vavilov

@busmark_w_nika Open access to profile data via API. so that candidates can specify their Product Hunt profile in their CVs, and systems can pull up data on launched products, their success on Product Hunt, industry, etc. Like with GitHub etc.

Nika

@michael_vavilov This sounds legitimate and could be interesting to see candidates based on their success rates. I wouldn't have come up with this idea, so I'm glad that someone else mentioned it.

I suppose that with the new strict rules on which threads are allowed and which are not, all hiring posts would probably be rejected...

PH Forum used to be a free-for-all, and now it has gone completely to the opposite extreme...

Nika

@borja_diazroig Rules are stricter to keep the discussion more authentic and also valuable. I recall that discussion posts were also playful, such as the Coffee vs. Tea poll, but it didn't yield anything useful, so we need to strive to maintain the bar.

It’s a good food for thought. In my opinion, PH might be a good place to find the founding member (co-founder and founding engineer). The community is very much driven by passion and the latest tech. So I believe PH is a suitable platform to post jobs for early members in your team. I might be wrong too
Nika

@ricoardiya Co-founder, speeddating/matching? Sounds good :D

Fabio Barreiro

I would test this idea by allowing companies to add a link to an external jobs positions page. Then show a "We're hiring" button on their products pages and track clicks.

Nika

@fabio_barreiro1 This experiment seems to be legit. Like it doesn't draw too much attention to itself, but at the same time it gives it space.

Warren
I think it’d be pretty cool to be able to “super upvote” a company and have the option to apply integrated in
Nika

@warrenharmon Can you elaborate on what you mean?

Chris Messina

You mean bring back Product Hunt Job Listings? 😉

Nika

@chrismessina This is relics. Yes, I meant this. It was probably deactivated before I started using the platform.

"There's no connection between the companies on the platform and the openings listed" – that is a pity, if it were somehow connected to products/companies existing on this platform, at least it would have some background.

Zagita

While I love the idea of connecting PH-savvy talent with companies, I worry job posts would change the vibe of the platform. Maybe a separate 'Hunt for Talent' section could work without disrupting the main feed's focus on products?
