Maker’s Corner: From Google Meet meltdown to multiplayer meetings

Hi everyone! Please welcome this week's Maker's Corner feature, @themisty , Founder of @Nonilion

Feel free to chime in below in the comments with questions on his product or journey or anything else that comes to mind!

If you're interested in being featured in our Maker's Corner, please let us know here on this forum thread.

  • Tell us what Nonilion is.

    • Nonilion is an immersive meetings platform. It’s aimed to replace google meet with a more collaborative and productive environment. It offers participants the freedom to move around the meeting space (designed as various maps, some inspired by games and some based off of actual office blueprints). Nonilion is a distraction free google’s meet alternative, with perplexity ai, multi participant screen share, interactive multi participant games, file sharing, custom characters and more.

    • Nonilion is free to use for all the users and also offers a pro plan for meetings that required custom room names and unlimited participants.

  • What inspired you to build your product? What problem were you trying to solve when you built it? Has that evolved?

    • This is our favourite question. Our inspiration came from our own struggles. We are a team of ai engineers, machine learnists, research scientist, front-end developers, electronics engineers, video editors, marketers and content writers. The only similarity we all shared was that we worked remotely. Google meet was the only platform that worked for all of us till it didn’t. When 2 or more people from different departments started brainstorming and researching, it became very chaotic for content writers, video editors and front-end developers to focus and work in collaboration. Two or more groups talking over each other or sharing screens at the same time resulted in other groups to sit and just watch. As an alternative and a solution we started breaking out in our own smaller mini google meetings and then getting back together again at the end of work day to discuss what we did. This friction was acceptable for the first few weeks but soon became very tiresome and unproductive. We made nonillions v0 for our own personal meeting not knowing that it will become a product in itself which will also end up ranking 5th product of the day on product hunt. Since then till now we have over 1000 new registrations and 50 registrations everyday. We believe if there are other groups and teams in the world facing similar problems then Nonilion can definitely be that solution. We wanted to keep the friction, the barrier to entry and the learning curve to the least difficulty as possible; that is why Nonilion also let user join a meet as a guest allowing them to seamlessly join the conservations.

  • What’s a feature or detail you obsessed over that most users will never notice—but you're really proud of?

    • I am absolutely obsessed about our screen sharing implementation. While it might seem like a basic feature at first glance, the way we've engineered screen sharing is unique and powerful. We've put considerable thought into making it intuitive, smooth, and efficient, allowing for seamless collaboration during meetings.

  • What’s something that didn’t make it into your product for this launch, but you'd like to build?

    • AI-powered meeting assistants. We’ve prototyped features like auto-summaries, sentiment analysis to flag unengaged participants, and smart scheduling that optimizes room bookings. These didn’t make the cut for stability reasons but are top priorities.

  • Is this your first product? If not, what else have you built, or are currently working on?

    • No this is not our first product, we have built hundreds of products for the past 17 years in the industry. Recently we have started focusing on contributing towards the open source communities. We are working very closely with clubs, societies, hackathons to learn what are the gaps in the ai, robotics, virtual space, remote collaboration. By understanding these gaps we are able to develop and innovate next tech product. We are aiming to launch our newest and open source robotics component library called the empire ui.

  • What’s your secret weapon or go-to when you get stuck while building?

    • The secret weapons when I get stuck while building is asking claude 3.7 sonnet politely “ Please Please fix it “ Just kidding, we usually do more r&d.

  • When did you decide to launch on Product Hunt, and how did you prep for it? Do you have any advice for someone thinking about launching?

    • We soft-launched in March 2025 to test early adopters, then refined based on feedback before our April 1st relaunch. Prep included:

    • Engaging early adopters to leave authentic reviews.

    • Simplifying your value prop like ours: “Immersive meetings > another grid of faces.”

    • Leveraging PH’s gallery to showcase your product.

    • Advice: Start building your PH community early—even pre-launch. Highlight specific pain points your product solves (e.g., “no more talking over teammates”).

  • What's the most surprising or unexpected learning and/or feedback you've received?

    • Nonilion was actually never meant to be a product but a temporary solution to our gmeet problems. But it is equally surprising that now we can’t use gmeet

This sounds like a great piece of conferencing software!

What I'm curious about is the marketing strategy the team is taking, because changing office habits is not an easy thing to do.

And it's as if choosing a product for meetings is the right of the management staff? How would you guys choose a GTM plan?

Krishna Krishna

@onbing Hi and thank you for the compliment. We are hosting Hackathons, Workshops and private offices as part of our marketing efforts, which has brought quite decent traction and interest.

Lots of offices and management are looking for real change, we havent found any learning curve issues, or technology shift issues, I guess thanks to @ChatGPT by OpenAI everyone is now an expert.

@themisty thanks for details :)

Haha, I've been there nothing like a Meet meltdown to turn a regular call into a group therapy session.

Krishna Krishna

@yusuf_umar :) Hahaha, totally

This Nonilion sounds super cool! I can totally relate to the Google Meet chaos. When multiple people share screens or talk over each other, it's a madhouse. The idea of an immersive, distraction-free platform with games and custom characters is genius. How do you think it'll fare against other popular meeting tools in the long run?

Krishna Krishna

@fred_davis5 Hi, thank you for the compliments. I believe if Nonilion becomes a unicorn or a multi-billion dollar company, then we will sponsor all the other meetings platform, and try be their friends haha :)
