Want to speak a new language confidently? Join other students from around the world in groups of up to 6 people and benefit from a structured learning plan, friendly tutors and engaging classes.
Thanks @chrija for hunting us and hey everyone! 👋
I'm Dmytro, co-founder and CTO at Preply.
Do you remember what it was like to learn a language with a group of people? Sure, maybe going to school everyday wasn’t our favourite part. But what about spending time with your friends in class, asking your buddy for their homework and rushing through the vocab together before an exam?
Learning a language with others has some incredible benefits. You can engage in conversations, speak about topics you’re interested in and get instant feedback. In fact, a lot of people still prefer group classes.
That’s why we decided to bring them to Preply. But don’t worry, we’re not trying to take you back to school (trust me!). Instead, we’re bringing online group language classes to you.
🚀 Tech-powered, 🥳️ friendly, ✍️ tailored to you and most importantly, 💯 effective.
Meet new people from around the world, join online classes of 6, and enjoy learning a language together.
Let’s go back to the good old days. Except this time, we’re doing it better!
Over the last ~ 18 months my family has become a huge power user of Preply. My sons take English and French lessons (and enjoy them much more than school 😉), and my wife has started to learn Italian.
Really excited about the launch of group lessons, which make it even more fun and more affordable for people around the world to learn or brush up their English!
PS: I'm a co-founder of www.pointnine.com, which is an investor in Preply, so I'm biased, but everything I said about Preply is true. :)
Peer tutoring is an instrumental strategy in advancing your skills, especially when you're learning new languages. Leverage Preply English Group Classes to supercharge your speaking skills and learn from others in a fun way!
@volodymyr_nesterenko we hope we have build minimum lovable product for English and as soon as we get some traction with it will expand to the other subjects.
That's exactly what we're looking for our corporate classes. I really like that we can have a flexibility in choosing the right tutors without risking getting behind the schedule (that is what exactly what was happening when we're trying to find tutors outside of Preply, just leveraging our network)
@tony_urban Thanks! In a group language learning, speaking skills are formed many times faster due to active communication. A company of people speaking English is a situation which is close to real ,as much as possible
Earlier I studied through this platform, and enjoyed it with all the features, and options.
The idea to launch group classes is great! Looking forward to test it
@antonkahn Thank you for your question Anton.
We have great respect for all online schools out there who share our mission of bringing live language learning to more people who need it.
Preply Group Classes are our newest product addition catering for language learners who prefer to learn in groups.
This provides learners with a highly personalized learning approach focused on their exact goals and needs, a wide range of prices and very flexible scheduling options because our tutors are scattered around the globe and cover all possible timezones.
We’ve also been developing our own interactive classroom and the tools needed for a seamless learning experience, from booking to payment and a free access to digital curriculums.
Circling back to your question, maybe not a killer feature per se, but we definitely recommend you to try for yourself if you’re looking to learn a new language as we would love to hear your thoughts and feedback
Really good idea! It combines the good things of taking group lessons and also allows you to learn with people from other places without being in the same location!
This is awesome! I've been learning with the platform for the past three years. It definitely will add more engagement during the lesson and learn from other learners as well!
Super excited to try!
Kudos to @elvis_obanya1 and the team!
@elvis_obanya1@ariediafauzan Thanks! When learners engage in discussions with other learners instead of just the instructor, the opportunities for knowledge retention is great
@huakya_news Thanks! Small-group learning method will help students to think
critically, master course concepts, and apply them to real-world situations
I can't believe that this product has received 5/5 stars. It's a scam for teachers. I'm writing from the perspective of someone who has taught on this platform in the past.
First, let's talk commission rate. 33% + the first lesson is free. I charge $30 USD/hour for English lessons, where the pricing reflects the preparation effort and quality of lessons I create for advanced learners. One student saw me twice and paid 60 USD, of which I only saw 22.50 USD. In case you're wondering, I only got paid 37.5% of what my student paid. No marketplace company charges prices like these. The prices drop but only after 20 hours of lessons with students. Typically, students meet for an hour per week, so that's 5 months of teaching. I'd only get paid 372 USD, while the student pays 600 USD. That's a 42% commission.
Secondly, Preply outsources its customer service, so the quality is extremely low. Every time I interact with customer service, I'm treated as if I'm a criminal. If have a problem and I don't have 'proof', I must be lying. This atmosphere creates an extremely low trust environment for both students and teachers.
Third, students get unlimited trial lessons. For example, I spent 3 hours on new students last week. Since they are trial lessons, I don't get paid. I had a few amazing lessons, however, they don't stick around. Why? Because why pay for lessons with a teacher you liked when you can get an unlimited supply of lessons with a new teacher for free? The price for such a model is always paid for by the teachers.
I really hope that there are some strict labor laws in Ukraine because the way teachers are being treated on Preply is just immoral.
@noah_fultonbeale Thanks! Yeas, it is fun, and collaborative learning involves students actively in the process of learning, and helps to develop better understanding. Students in study groups usually learn faster than students who study alone
hello!
Im wondering how the classes are being prepared: does each teacher creates his\ her own lesson plan or they get them created by your team on the platform?
Love that with Preply there's an option for both 1-on-1 private lessons and now group lessons! Thanks for limiting the group size, too! I think 4-6 students makes the learning effective for all participants.
@koby_wong Thanks! In a small group size tutors can offer one-on-one assistance at times and are more likely to meet the individual needs of their students
