@cballou - whoops! We'll take a look (thanks!).
Welcome and thanks for posting. I'm a fan of products that simplify and streamline the early stage of startups (e.g. launching a landing page/website). The free 15 day trial is especially awesome considering it comes with a .co domain.
How did you come up with the idea?
Very impressed @cballou - would be great to have a lander that was razor-focused on email collection (a la LaunchRock) IMO. Great work, awesome product.
@cballou What happens when one wants to host a full fledged website? Does that happen on your server or one has to look for a separate hosting provider?
Hey @KEVINgotbounce, we've got a blog post coming out tomorrow on our email templating build system. I can't recall if I referenced Litmus, but we use it internally. :thumbsup:
@dshan We actually launched with LR as our first integration partner. We pulled that part out of our registration process because the overall LR page editing wasn't simple enough for many users. What we have now is a Simple DNS application pointing to LR if you decided to setup your own. When we move forward with more direct app integrations, we'll be putting LR back in the mix as we already had that piece fully functional.
We looked around at all of the registrars and realized that if it was taking us techies fair amount of time to purchase and configure a domain and email, it must be completely off-putting to others. Everyone on the team has so many ideas that they just want to get online and test out, so we built POP to get online and handle configuring GMail and the DNS aspect for us automatically.
The free trial period is very important to us as it truly follows the path of a lean startup. You can setup your site on POP for a Startup Weekend project and just let it auto expire if you don't receive much attention or traction following demo day.
Our true interests are simplicity and improving the user experience. We want to throw away any preconceptions of a negative registrar experience. We want POP to be the site you recommend to your friends and family when they ask you how to start or run your own website!
Hey @rahulvarshneya, great question. We partner with .CO for several reasons. One of the most critical is that .CO as a cTLD has far less restrictions as to their domain provisioning process. .CO is the sole reason we're allowed to have a free trial period and we're very gracious for that. You won't find this capability with any TLDs. We're also adopters and supporters of .CO in the sense that they heavily promote the startup ecosystem. They recently launched a program for anybody owning a .CO domain to get special privileges and perks.
We've definitely discussed expanding in the future; there's many hurdles to account for. It requires additional contractual agreements with the registries and a codebase overhaul to support a rules engine that handles complying with registries individually. They each have very different rule sets we'd need to account for.
