@henrykuzmick When you drag something onto a board, is there a way to remove it? I added a note and bookmark and don't see a way to remove them. I tried trashing it, but that deletes it entirely instead of just getting it off the board.
EDIT: Also, it's not obvious how to make a section into its own object on a board (I figured it out...you drag it from the main todo list) nor can I see how to undo that if I no longer want the section to be a separate list from the main one.
@nicksimard Hi Nick! It's not very obivous - I know, I'm working on ways to improve the flow, but for the moment if you click on a card it will select it and then you can hit backspace to remove it from the board.
If you don't want the section to be seperate - you can do the same thing, just select and backspace!
I'm moving fixing this flow up in priority :)
Thanks for the feedback!
@henrykuzmick Ahhhhhh...I see. I had tried the escape key, on a whim, thinking maybe that would do it. As a keyboard shortcut, I think backspace is awesome. As the *only* way to do it, maybe not so much. I really like the overall concept of this, though! It's kind of like Bear meets Milanote.
I did notice that when I choose not to show files on the timeline, it still shows up. If you could make it possible to click into a day from the timeline, kind of like Workflowy or Taskpaper that would be neat. And also, to hide every day but "today" on the timeline.
I think this tool has huge potential, and I look forward to seeing mobile and desktop apps. As one final request, some way to automate things (ahem, maybe Zapier?) would be great. Or sending emails to add tasks, like Things 3 (and others). I find it hard to commit to a tool if I have to everything manually. Heck, if there was an API I could build my own integration :)
@nicksimard OMG I love the idea of clicking into a specific day! It could have dedicated urls so you could bookmark "today" for example! Adding it to the backlog, it's brilliant, thanks!!!
For the removal of board items - I'll defo need to work on the UX more, I assume some trash icon that you could drag into when you want to get rid of a card. Also tooltips for shortcuts would help imho.
Zapier - yes! But not in the short term I'm afraid, I think the mobile apps are of higher priority and those will take some work.
I'll open up the API at some point too, but it needs to get more stable, at the moment I'd prefer to keep making lots of breaking changes :)))
Thanks again, those are some incredible tips!!!
@henrykuzmick Thanks for getting back to me and being open to feedback :) I think you're onto something with Pine. You really can take the best of a lot of other apps and weave it all together. I agree that mobile apps are of higher priority than integrations/automation. When the API is available, I can make something good enough for the use cases I'd need.
Wow! Beautiful. Congrats on the launch, @henrykuzmick! Love the name. π²
Lots of fun ideas here! Really enjoy the timeline UI too! Might be fun to make it a growing pine tree itself! :)
As much as I love Notion, it is overpowered in a lot of ways for certain things. The Journaling + Todo approach you've taken here a super slick way to get started writing for life.
The monetization approach is super Interesting too! Curious your inspiration for this approach through the habit tracker.
What do you have in store for Pine next?
@corey_gwin Thanks Corey!! so cool to heart that from you!
Notion is awesome, There's even a good chance I wouldn't have started developing Pine if I discovered notion sooner. But I think while we solve similar problems, it's done in a different way and can simply come down to a matter of taste.
I'm hoping to make Pine easier to use and a bit more focused than Notion.
The monetization will most likely change in the future when more advanced features are added. I'd like to have a free version without limitations at some point and only sell advanced features, but we'll see :)
The mobile app is the big next thing, with UX updates in the meantime :)
Thanks again!!!
Does it have a mobile version? PWA that would have more than a responsive design? I'm thinking push notification for instance.
Does it have an option for offline mode?
Nice service / app, thank you! Is there a natural language input? I tried "test in 2 minutes", the "2 minutes" part got selected but nothing happened after 2 min. Where can I find some FAQ / help? Thanks! @henrykuzmick
@utestme Thanks Onutz!! There's a natural language parser, and you've caught a bug! It works with simple inputs like dates, time, things like "today, tomorrow", etc. You can also just type in a tag name like "#mytag" when creating todos.
I'll fix the "in 2minutes" one asap :)
As far as the FAQ goes - I don't have one ready yet, but it's being worked on.
If you have any more questions or felt like anything was confusing - let me know, and I'll put it up in the upcoming FAQ :)
Thanks again!
@elena_zabalueva Hi Elena! Thanks!! And yes, mobile apps are already in development! I'm hoping to get an early mobile version in 2-3 months, stay tuned! :)
Hello, Everyone π
My name is Henrikas and I'm the maker of Pine.
Today I'm incredibly excited to announce the launch of version 1!
Pine is designed to help you organize all of your digital content in a single place which you can reach from anywhere with just a browser.
With Pine you can:
β Keep track of Todos, sort them into groups and visualize them in a timeline. Share your Todo Lists via a link to let others know how you're doing.
πββοΈ Track Habits and measure your performance over time.
π Write notes, share them via a public link.
π Keep bookmarks right next to the other stuff.
And most importantly - you can do all of this in within a single app, and sort everything using a simple tag system.
Pine is your own personal Journal, Knowledge Base, Project Manager or whatever else you decide to turn it into.
I'm making Pine in my spare time with the sole intention of making it as pleasing as possible to everyone who uses it. Your feedback is the best thing I could ask for!
I like the concept of this app, but I will have to fool with it. Already caught a missing essential (blockquote in notes). Wonder what else I would be waiting for for months if I tried to switch?
@stowe_boyd Thanks Stowe! I've already moved blockquotes up in priority! If you're missing anything else, just let me know - I'm alwasy happy to hear all feedback!
I've seen a lot of apps in my day, and this is crazy sick. The integrations of habits into todo's is so smart. Then you throw in documents. I really love it.
@chrisdancy1 Thanks for the kind words Chris!! I'm very glad you like it!
I'm doing my best trying to strike a balance between simple and powerful, Pine is still kind of bare bones, a lot of focus will now be directed towards making todos, habits, notes be as much interlinked in an obvious way as possible.
So pretty soon you should be able to create todos right in your notes, leave a comment in that todo that links to some habit that iteself has some notes attached that help you track progress, etc :)
I think that should make it pretty fun to use.
Thanks again for the feedback, it means a ton!!!
Wow. This is really incredible! It's so rounded and well-done! Like Notion and Todoist in one :D
Going to give this a shot.
Edit, my feedback:
- Buttons need to be bigger!
- UX should be more intuitive. Clicking outside of a prompt should, for example, disable that prompt (hide it or something along those lines)
- When hovering over the button to mark as done, the mouse state should change. This is all basic accessibility!
- When in a board, when pressing the plus button in the bottom right, we're presented with a set of options. For whatever reason, at the VERY TOP of that list, the option 'Send feedback' is presented. Odd placement? Not intuitive
To me, a to-do app should be made as intuitive and easy to work with as possible at all times. Every micro-optimization matters. I'm missing a few of those. Would love to see more of those :)
Other than that, amazing work. Really, really, well done for a version one. Feels like a version 1.5 - 2! :D
@lucas_hogendoorn Thanks Lucas! It's so cool to see people enjoying it!
Your feedback is amazing, all very good points!
With the core functionallity now working, making better UX is exactly what I want to work on now. The only thing in higher priority so far is the mobile app :)
I was excited to try this, as I'm always looking for better ways to keep track of notes and ideas. But, when reading the TOS, I found this section on User Content. Unless I'm reading this incorrectly, it appears that you are saying anything I add to my notes or journal here would be available for you to exploit as you see fit and not considered confidential or personal.
User content
Any material, thought, idea, recommendation, information, inquiry, know-how, procedure, remarks and other communications transmitted or uploaded by you to the app in any way will be considered by us as non-confidential, non-proprietary, and non-personal and we or our subsidiaries may use this content for any purpose, including for commercial and non-profit making purposes in any media, now known to man or to be developed in the future, as Pine may decide, in its sole discretion. This shall without limitation include the advancement, manufacture or promotion of services and products for commercial purposes, for which we shall have no obligation to compensate you or a third party; or to recognize you or a third party as the source. We therefore clearly ask that you do not transmit or post to the app any material, information, thought, recommendation, idea, procedure, know-how, inquiry, remarks and other communications you might want to keep private or for which you expect to be recognized or remunerated."
@iambrakes damn thatβs sucks. Thatβs pretty extreme too.. If this is a journal and notes app.. where privacy is needed and expected.. Dev even stressed like privacy was important. I mean if you use it to write a book, does the book become his property? Iβm so confused now.
LOVE THIS. I've been looking for something like this. I recently started with Notion but notion is just to complex for what I need and has too many options. I also feel that I focus more on the organization of the content versus the content itself with apps like notion. This is great and will definitely be using this.
I've been using Pine since its beta release and been impressed with the streamlined approach in organising your day to day tasks. No overly complicated, unnecessary functions and constant improvement with each update is enough to consider it as your daily task management tool. Taking into account that it's only the first stable release of the app, the future of it looks really promising!
@henrykuzmick This looks great and very clean design, congratulations on the amazing product . I have a few questions about privacy
1. Is the data encrypted on the client side (end-to-end encryption)?
2. This data is extremely private any way in which you are ensuring data privacy and will this data be used for ad targeting/ profiling?
@joseph_machado Thanks Joseph!!! as for your questions:
1. There's no e2e encryption atm, but it's something planned for the future. I'd argue that your browser and https mostly takes care of e2e anyway.
2. That's a hard no! Your data is your data. I don't own it, won't sell or share it. In fact, that's the first and main thing mentioned in terms and conditions.
All of your data is stored in mLab instead of a server I own, so that people who know security and databases way better than I do can take care of it being secure.
@hainguyen13 Hey Nguyα» n! I'm using slatejs atm. Slate just went through some major changes in it's API, so as soon as I get time to update - Pine's notes will feel different too!
@mintran Not an easy decition, but Slate seemed to offer the best amount of extendability. At the moment notes in Pine are very bare-bone, but it will get much more powerful, with the ability to creates todos directly in notes, embed bookmarks, habits, etc.
So plugins and extendabilty was the main selling point for mem.
Slate also allows for a good amount of control over the look and feel.
I did run into the issue where Slate just went through major changes, completelly breaking the API, so I'll be forced to remake how notes work almost from scratch... The updated API looks great though and should allow for even better notes.
@henrykuzmick Thanks for sharing. Choosing an editor is not easy. I've just switched from Quill to ProseMirror because Quill's developer abandoned the project.
@mintran I looked into ProseMirror yesterday and it seems pretty great! My biggest beef with Slate is the constant API changes (but of course that's expected as they're still in beta)
If I were to start from scratch, I'd highly consider ProseMirror
Nice product - looks like something I'd like to use BUT and it's a BIG BUT. THIS PRODUCT IS A COMPLETE FRAUD AND DO NOT USE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
"User content
Any material, thought, idea, recommendation, information, inquiry, know-how, procedure, remarks and other communications transmitted or uploaded by you to the app in any way will be considered by us as non-confidential, non-proprietary, and non-personal and we or our subsidiaries may use this content for any purpose, including for commercial and non-profit making purposes in any media, now known to man or to be developed in the future, as Pine may decide, in its sole discretion."
^ This is sheer nonsense - so anything a user uploads is pine's to keep, huh?
Either you make it end to end encrypted or SHUT IT DOWN!!! (or open source it)
Seriously getting sick and tired of bullsh!it like this. I don't why you've bothered to put up a cutesy " not an evil corporation" message with this type of sh!t.
I would simply NEVER NEVER NEVER trust an app like this when you've got a random ding dong just pilfering through anyone's notes on a whim and if he finds anything he likes - well that's his to keep - stupid you for signing up.
