Hello Product Hunt!
Paws is a desktop app for Trello. It's great if you like your Trello away from your browser, and we've added a lot of extras on top of an already great product!
πΎ Paws for Trello has been hunted on our initial release in August 2016. We've improved it continuously for the past 6 months and in version 2.0 we finally introduce Quick Add and some neat vibrancy effects :)
I'd love to hear any feedback about the app and will answer any questions you might have π
@dotmilosz I was using a Fluid wrapper around Trello before but Paws is way better! Love it, have been a user since 1.x. Are there any plans for tabs so we can have multiple boards open?
@magnuspaaske Thanks! You can currently use multiple windows with Cmd+Shift+N - they also work in split view in full screen!
Tabs are currently not yet supported on Electron, the framework the app relies on. As soon as they are working & stable, we will add them to PfT :)
This looks great. Works nicely. Do you have any plans to integrate with add-ons? I've been using this recently. While it's not pretty it's helping us on projects. http://www.plusfortrello.com/p/a...
@nguyendangtinh Thanks! The font size is the same, but we changed to use the system font rather than Helvetica. That may be why it looks a bit different than what you're used to. You can change the size by adjusting zoom levels with 'Cmd +' and 'Cmd -'
I go back and forth on Trello. I think I just need to commit and make it work for me as it seems like the way I organize anyway, but just end up with too many boards and projects to manage.
@sacbookreviewer Only add achievable items to boards. Don't be afraid of deleting items if lists gets out of hand. They will resurface if they are important enough.
@stoweboyd Yup!
Press Cmd+C or Cmd+Alt+C anywhere to copy current URL and Cmd+Alt+V to load a Trello URL from your clipboard. This works on all boards and cards.
We also have Safari and Chrome extensions to open Trello links in Paws automatically :)
@bntzio Nope! All data stays on your computer, anonymised by your token. In detail, we use API access to:
- get notificiations while the app is running in the background
- create cards with quick add
- get a list of your starred boards to assign shortcuts to
But all that never goes beyond the app container on your computer. We don't have any tracking or analytics built in either.
@dotmilosz mm... i'm using little snitch and i can see there are outgoing connections to google analytics, quantserve, cloudfront and some ip domains π€
@pizza_code It's a wrapper with a lot of extra features and enhancements. The core experience is based on the Trello website, but we integrate things like your starred boards into the dock icon/shortcuts, support native notifications, quick add, global shortcuts, menubar icon and more.
@douglasevaristo I think that $2.99 is a fair sum considering the weeks/months makers put into the app and the hours you'll spend on it if you end up using it :)
Nice
Would be great to have compact-view setting or mode (look here https://chrome.google.com/websto...) - very useful for long backlog prioritization
Also - an improvement on standard filtering would be much appreciated, Trello doesn't do a great job there
@matveyich Compact mode is a great suggestion - we'll look into adding something like it to our enhancements page :)
In the meantime you can use zoom in/out shortcuts.
One of the things I love about web products is - I have the ability to do the same things where ever I am. When desktop clients get richer - it's very difficult to go back and forth between web/client, especially when I'm travelling (or in a place where I don't have clients installed).
So, while I'm sure there's P/M fit for some folks who are using only one machine and want to have a desktop experience, I think Trello is right to focus on web for all big clients (tablets and above) and dedicated mobile apps for phones.
Very nice! Have been using it for a while now, the best way to use Trello out there.
Only one thing: Are we getting support for 3rd-party extensions? My team uses Trello to manage itself as an agile team, and I miss having a plugin to sum all points for cards in a given column...
Keep up the great work, Milosz!
Great but the website don't mention the pricing of 3.50$ or mention Twitter account etc. And don't have a FAQ. And the download button doesn't work on Chrome! Explorer is fine... Look forward to tryin it
I use Paws every day and much prefer it in its own app rather than in the browser, the additional unique features (like label text) are also a nice touch.
