TIL that you can use the Claude Desktop App to install projects from GitHub. What will you install?
I have been a big fan of @Aqua Voice but do need something local for the times I don't have internet or am traveling. So I wanted to give @OpenWispr a try but didn't really want to go through the whole setup for it... so I gave @Claude for Desktopaccess to my files and computer and... it basically instantly installed the whole thing and got it working!
Then I asked it to package for me as a Mac app (.app) and what do you know... it did! Was honestly kind of amazing. There was one issue that I had to keep troubleshooting and that's sometimes Claude would reference the wrong environment or file... it could figure it out, but just something to pay attention too.
So now you can vibecode and quickly iterate on Open Source software using Claude Desktop, @Cursor, and @Warp. Use Claude to set it up, Cursor to iterate and build, then Warp to polish and debug.
Have there been any Open Source software that has scared you away but you might try install with this method?

Gonna finally take a stab at Monica CRM. The setup used to scare me off, but this gives me hope.

This is epic! Super impressed it could set it up so easily.

@gabe welcome to dm me and we can sort the issues out together :)

@gabe_stein oh that'd be rad!
This is cool. Thanks for sharing. I've had success with using Claude + Cursor in tandem. How has Warp helped your development workflow?

@rahul_joseph Warp really helps me debug a lot faster and it's pretty powerful when working with something like Python or electron.
Can you provide the specific steps you took? I want to make sure I'm understanding what you did, and which app you used for each part of the process...!

@chrismessina yeah! So I wish I would have documented it better but essentially here's what I did
In the desktop app I installed the "Filesystem" and "Control your Mac" extensions. (If you don't have a crawler/mpc like firecrawl install this as well)
I activated the filesystem and control your mac by simply saying "You should have access to my desktop" and "You should also have access to my file system".
I told it what to do: "Fully install this for me using a local model that will perform well on an M4 Macbook Pro with 25GB of RAM. I'm currently using Aqua and would like a similar level of performance. https://github.com/HeroTools/open-wispr"
Troubleshoot! From there, it pretty much almost instantly worked. Here are some follow up commands I did
Can you look through the full GitHub and make sure we properly installed it along with all the necessary items and icons.

To run it, do I just double click the shell command file? When I do that it opens up my code editor (but the command here should be to make it into a .app). I defaulted to just running it from Terminal as I've had issues with it as a .app
And that was pretty much it! I encountered two issues I had to troubleshoot:
It installed some parts for x86_64 (Intel) instead of arm64 (Apple Silicon) - so make sure to call out arm64 during the process
And sometimes the Node.js app was calling system Python instead of virtual environment which caused issues.
TIL you can use the Claude Desktop App to install GitHub projects directly super handy for dev workflows. First up on my list: an open-source AI tool and a markdown note takers.
That's a handy feature—I'd probably install productivity or AI tools to streamline my workflow. Just like using http://nbiappointmentph.ph/ makes NBI clearance booking quick and easy.
