Obsidian is crazy good for how new it is. And the team is moving extremely fast. It seems like they really know what they want out of this product. I've tried dozens of knowledge management tools and settled on TiddlyWiki a couple years ago. It took a lot of customization to get anywhere close as useable as Obsidian is out of the box. Here's what I love about Obsidian: - Local files, syncs via iCloud/Dropbox/etc - Markdown with [[ ]]] bidirectional links and - [ ] checklists. - Automatically updates all old links if you rename a file(!) - Compatible with 1Writer on iOS - Really nice keyboard shortcuts - Runs as its own app (in a wrapper), but can be styled via custom CSS - Automatically parses external URLs (don't necessarily need to use the markdown format for simple .com URLs) - Great editing experience, e.g. auto indenting bullets - Autocomplete for everything (tags, linked pages) - Lots of extra nice touches like graph view and the pane system to open multiple files at once

@kepano Thanks for the list Stephen. Re. 1Writer, could you please elaborate on your workflow? I have 1Writer and I'm curious what's the most productive way to take my notes on iOS.

I've been a happy user for a few weeks now. It's already my daily driver with a few hundred files under management. Extremely slick, intuitive, and created by the nicest bunch of people (at least based on the Discord space). Sure it's a little buggy but that's part of the charm at the moment. The releases are *very* frequent and well communicated. It is already better than substitutes that have been developed for years, or many cases decades. Other than the product, it is just ingenious to spread a closed beta through invites to a Discord server. You get immediate authentic interface with your users and a massive headstart with community-building. I'm definitely taking that path for my next product.

+1 for future-proofing with flatfile and markdown!

I love Obsidian, and its creators. That is all. (it is fast, stable, and so slick looking - the perfect knowledge database)

Congrats @_ericaxu @shida_li on an amazing product. As a former technical writer and information networking specialist at Red Hat, and then the founder of Corilla, I'm from the a small community of humans who have targeted their careers in studying the convergence of information science and neuroscience in our professional and academic lives. And I can safely say... this is the closest I've seen to a truly killer product that realises so much of what got my little team excited in the first place (which was the implications of DITA in a UX-obsessive world). You've made such a beautiful product with immediately obvious workflow and value. And without any overly dramatic posturing on Twitter or in forums about taking over the world, without hiding behind silly cartoons, and without drowning under venture funded hype. It's just... a great product. I use it, I love it, and I'm going to go pay for it right now so you can avoid all those things above and just keeping making something special. Thank you.

Your markdown stays portable and since it's just markdown it integrates nicely with imdone.io for kanban

I've been experimenting with Obsidian in the beta for a little while and it's really, really nice. I definitely prefer Bear when I'm on my Mac, but because I switch between Mac and PC regularly, have been looking for a simple alternative. Obsidian is hitting that mark with the ability to customize the look and feel with CSS, and the links between documents. Having my "vault" of notes in a Dropbox folder is the hacky way I have going for sharing between computers, looking forward to seeing where the app goes in this regard.

Exactly what I have been looking for. Thanks @erica_xu and @shida_li

Best knowledge base system I've ever used.

Obsidian is one of the best apps I discovered recently and almost immediately become a core part of my workflow despite its early stage. It's a personal knowledge system built to last: proprietary formats provide advantages but end up locking you in it – especially when it's about a monthly subscription. Obsidian is built on plain Markdown files that can be accessed by any app and are unlikely to become obsolete. The files are local, though you can put them in any cloud (in the future Obsidian will provide an additional paid sync option). The devs are great and have been great at receiving feedback and adding the right features.

I started my PKM journey on Roam a couple of months ago and a couple of days later I discovered Obsidian. It is far superior in every single way. It has a completely fresh aproach and focuses on longevity by staying away from proprietary formats. Silver&Licat (the devs) are super super active in the Discord channel and at the same time work super quickly to release new updates more than weekly! Obsidian is a very very big part of my workflow these days and I seriously can't reccomend it enough. Keep up the great work @shida_li and @erica_xu :D

Probably one of the most interesting aspects of Obsidian is how it manages to combine simplicity with extensibility. It already has a bunch of plugins that will turn it into your favorite markdown editor. The release cycle is fast and the developers are open to suggestions from the community.

Closest note-taking product to a physical notebook. I love the simplicity and - the pace at which you ship new features is mind-blowing.

?makers I like that it supports GFM but could it also support Github relative links i.e. [link text](sidecarMDfile.md)

Just here to say that Obsidian is insane. I freaking love it.

Loving the app so far - have been using it for a week now. It has changed the way I store and organise my notes and looks like a keeper. A great way to get into Zettlekasten. Keep up the great work so far @erica_xu & @shida_li

The fundamental product decisions @ open format, offline-first, privacy-first are very strong differentiators compared to similar products. Excited about all the development in single-player power tools including knowledge management.
