Cool! Might be a reason they have to develop so much software on there own, it's not like I'm planning a space flight at the moment anyway. Would be cool if someone package these that are relevant for drones into a super-drone.
Would be cool if NASA also open source hardware in the future. I'd love a DIY moon lander, lol.
If every code/app done or contracted by any government anywhere in the world which by itself didn't represent a National Security Threat was mandated to be released to the public domain as Open Source, Humankind would stand to gain so much that it's quite probable that it would offset the negative effect, the taxes levied to finance them had on the People. NASA is opening a path that others ought to follow.
Open Government is not an abstract concept but a set of concrete actions which include opening and freeing the source code of the tools and the raw data to the People.
Great initiative of NASA to see where the taxpayers money goes. In Sweden, we have the oldest Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act dating back to 1766, but still, it is difficult to find information. Sweden participates in European Space Agency's programs and they only have 23 projects on Github: https://github.com/esa
