MoonKid is a fully decentralised domain name similar to .eth but with no governing/centralized oversight.

You said this isn’t the same as a TLD? Could you explain? Can I use the TLD? Can it be transferred to any registrar? Are there TLD limits? I’d love to see more info as this looks sorta like a crypto thing but sorta like a normal TLD and I just don’t get it. 😉

devon_meadows Great question. After talking to the general public I've found 99% of people have 0 interest in domains. This is a long response... You said this isn’t the same as a TLD? Could you explain?: A traditional TLD is recognized by ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) and this is not. .MoonKid (to me) is a Top Level Domain because I own what is to the right of the . or period, just like Verisign owns .com. More below. Can it be transferred to any registrar?: It can be transferred to any registrar that supports Handshake domains. GoDaddy does not currently support .MoonKid / Handshake Domains, but you can still build a website on the domain using GoDaddy website builder (bad idea) and their DNS. You could also use Heroku, Vercel, WordPress, or GitHub to name a few. Registrars that support .MoonKid / Handshake Domains: Porkbun, Encirca, Namecheap, Gateway. My top pick for domains anywhere is Porkbun. Cheapest out there and the best customer support. Note: I do not work for Porkbun and get paid the same (roughly $5) no matter where they are purchased. The link below is for Porkbun and you can see .MoonKid names that are still available by using the search feature. https://porkbun.com/tld/moonkid $9.78 every year you own the domain (renews yearly) https://www.encirca.com/handshak... $8.20 for the first year and then renews at $16.40 every year after. Can I use the TLD? TLDR: Yes, mostly. Edit: You cannot use the TLD as a TLD, only as an SLD. From Mozilla.org: "A Second Level Domain (SLD) is the part of the domain name that is located right before a Top Level Domain (TLD). For example, in mozilla.org the SLD is mozilla and the TLD is org." I read you question too quickly. You can use it if you purchase an SLD of whatever name you like that is available. Sorry. They do not resolve in a traditional browser without making a few tweaks. You can always download a browser that supports Handshake but this is where most people's interest cuts out. Links for accessing .MoonKid and Handshake Domains in the browser: https://www.hdns.io/ https://learn.namebase.io/starti... To get back to your question of use, you are able to build any website or webapp on the domain but accessing it for the general public is an issue. Other use cases: Email, single sign on, redirects, detailed here: https://www.namebase.io/use-cases/ Best use case: function as a human-readable wallet address for cryptocurrencies. All of this was possible thanks to the Handshake protocol: https://handshake.org/ That's probably too much to read. If you're interested there is nothing stopping you (at least monetarily) from creating your own .MoonKid, or whatever name you create. Traditional TLDs require an application fee of $180,000. Apologize for the wall of text. Truthfully, was not expecting this to get any votes and to wake up seeing it at 80 is encouraging. I'm sure parts were unclear. I'll be around to answer follow up questions.

I’m a life long domainer. My dream since childhood has been to own a TLD ~ Top Level Domain (weird, right?). .com is a TLD. Anyway, while this isn’t the same I am so happy to see it live. Public adoption needs to come a long way. The more exposure the better in my opinion. In true indiehacker fashion I threw up a carrd site: https://moonkid.org/ I’ve only registered a few. If you want to get one the cheapest option is PorkBun: https://porkbun.com/tld/moonkid

@will_works Interesting. But what's the use case?
Willy
@nok_moe Without getting political or creating another super long reply the best use case is a more free internet through decentralization. Other popular "crypto domains" like ENS and Unstoppable Domains are still governed by a central authority. You can put up a website/webapp and they function as a human-readable wallet address for cryptocurrencies. More use cases here: https://www.namebase.io/use-cases/
Varun Razora
So this is a domain services ?
Willy
@varunrazora It's similar to .com .org .net in traditional domain names. More similar to .eth (ENS domain names) / .blockchain (Unstoppable Domains). Will do my best to keep responses short.

May be if you can briefly explain a few use-cases, would be more interesting. Thanks for sharing!
