Finally a bank that innovates. This industry has been stagnant for way too long. So glad to see Mondo taking the lead here.
A friend of mine has been testing this out and absolutely loves it, both for the convenience and the change in his habits as a result. Plus I'm a sucker for a sweet UI and that's beautiful 👌
With so many great apps (Anchor, Mondo etc) coming out iPhone first, I'm starting to think I may have to get involved.
Plus obligatory cat banking gif:
@fredrivett they aren't a bank - I don't mean to make a semantic argument but in this case it's a pretty important one. They aren't a bank, they are trying to be a bank. There's no reason not to sign up if you think the product looks cool, but they have a long road ahead (and behind them). It's a monumental undertaking. Props to them for trying.
Have been using Mondo for about 2 months now as an Alpha user. As it is essentially "just" a prepaid MasterCard with an (excellent) app on the top, its a fantastic tool for managing day to day spending. I have a weekly budget for everyday expenses, like food and groceries, going out, etc. Every Sunday night, I put my budget for that week onto my Mondo card and it is then super easy to keep track of it and stay on top of my spending.
The app is constantly evolving and the APIs are quite mature - I've built an Apple Watch app which gives me my balance, weekly and monthly spend as a complication. Only took an hour from never seeing the API before to getting it done.
Hoping for direct debit support so I can pay my bills direct from Mondo to keep on top of them. I've also ordered a Curve card so I'm intrigued to see whether an entirely seperate account versus a smarter app on top of my existing accounts is the better way to go.
Mondo recently crowdfunded part of there latest investment stage - £1 million was pledged to them in 96 seconds. This bank is clearly going somewhere, I can't wait to get my card and start playing around with the API it uses!
@jongold I've been using Revolut for spending abroad. No exchange fees and uses the inter-bank rate, so there's no cheaper alternative. Mondo look like they'll do a better job tracking budgets which I'm most interested in, however I'm currently using the Daily Budget app and while it requires manual tracking it has a fantastic UI and reporting. Mondo's competing with lots of specialist apps who are doing a great job, so for me, they can win on convenience. I'd rather use one app than several. I joined their Crowdcube round so look forward to getting the card sooner. Hoping they live up to expectations! Huge opportunity.
Monitoring my finances is a joy with this app. I never thought a baking app could be so enjoyable! I'm impressed with how simple and clever it is and have recommended it to everyone I know. I love the hashtag feature to then search and keep track of how much you spend on specific things
Pros:
Card payments abroad with no fees! Hashtags for your payments. Immediate payment notifications on your phone.
Cons:
No referral program. I've been using my golden tickets and getting new people to use it, but there's no rewards!
Sign up quick if you want in - I currently have 35k people in front of me in the beta queue. They say they'll be admitting about 1k a week so I'm about 8 months out at least!
Been using Mondo for a while now - nice simple UI that works really well. The thing that has really impressed me is how quickly they respond to real questions through the in-app chat screen. For example, I couldn't remember the PIN for my mondo card the other week... I chatted them and they responded in < 5 mins. This is where I think it is pretty revolutionary, as getting a new PIN with my other banks would involve a long phone call then a 3-5 day wait for a letter to appear through my door.
I really like this Bank, The app is fluent, UX/UI is nice but the only problem I have is that there's no app for windows!
I'm a web designer and spend most of my time on Desktop / Web Browser and so that would be the best addition to Monzo.
