Mixo is a new way to interact with food content through short-form videos. We make it easy to create, distribute and monetize compelling food content for creators. We also make it easy to find, consume, and organize content for the viewers.
Hi Product Hunt!
I'm Shaun, Co-founder of Mixo.
Mixo is the first food super app in the making! It's a global food community. We begin our journey with our iOS app that allows the creators to easily create video recipes. It also allows the viewers to easily discover, follow along and organize content. We're launching with Korean recipes first, so that we can provide deep and meaningful user experiences, and we'll quickly expand to support all Asian cuisines. Our ultimate goal is to celebrate all cuisines and cultures of the world.
PROBLEMS:
· Difficult to create food video content: Video content creation is difficult, and the existing solutions do not make it any easier to create food-related recipe videos. I spent hours trying to manually line up overlay text objects to my recorded steps. This is a huge pain point.
· Difficult to search for and organize video recipes: Existing video platforms, especially the short-form platforms, have no shortage of food content but since they are not built on a food-specific taxonomy, it's difficult to find content you're looking for. It's also difficult to organize your favorite content.
· Difficult to follow along: You have to watch the same video multiple times. It's quite challenging to follow along as you're cooking.
SOLUTIONS:
· Purpose-built for food videos: We support instruction text for each step by default so that you can easily write out your instructions without having to line them up against the starting and ending times of each recorded clip. Our creators have decreased their post-production time by up to 95%! We created the easiest way to make short-form video recipes.
· Utility-driven viewing experience: We go beyond providing entertainment by making it easy for you to follow along with the video recipe as you're cooking in the kitchen. You can easily play or pause, and swipe left or right between different steps. We'll also be supporting Guided Viewing where the video pauses after each step so you have the time to catch up.
· Content search and organization: We built our system using a carefully curated food taxonomy. Our tagging categories will make it easy for you to look up anything from specific cuisines (e.g. Korean, Indian, Italian), content types (e.g. Recipes, Reviews), diets (e.g. Vegan), and food types/courses (e.g. Breakfast, Soup, Stew). We will soon support an organizational structure that will let you organize your favorite videos in a way that enables you to look them up easily later.
This is just the beginning for us. We want to bridge the gap between entertainment and utility for all types of food content by providing ingredient ordering, brand sponsorship marketplaces, live-streaming for online cooking classes, and meaningful monetization channels for our content creators.
Mixo is founded and funded by AlleyCorp (Founders of MongoDB, Business Insider, Gilt and Zola) and we thank them for believing in us and supporting us! Thank you to the entire Mixo team for making this launch possible.
We hope you enjoy the app. Please feel free to give us feedback or ask us questions.
Thanks,
Shaun
Love this, just remind me not to open it up when I'm feeling a bit hungry! Really though food content deserves it's own platform, there's so much of it there but no other app does it justice.
@aaronoleary Thanks! One feature we'll be supporting is the ability to order ingredients or dish directly from partnering restaurants for a given recipe -- so that you can watch the videos even when you're hungry :)
@aaronoleary@shaunseo Agreed that foodies need their own platform and that's why we are already seeing strong engagement rates on Mixo. Food is addicting!
@michelle_king1 Thanks Michelle! We'll continue to differentiate ourselves by providing utility-driven features such as ordering ingredients/dish, providing meaningful monetization channels to our creators, and making it easy for viewers to consume and organize their favorite content.
I normally don't like cooking (and am very bad) but I tried this and it's actually been pretty useful. I find the videos engaging and easy to follow, and have gotten to know a bit more about the rich culture/history behind some of my favorite Korean dishes. Looking forward to trying more recipes out.
Mixo has made the video creating and editing process easy and perfect for sharing recipes and quick videos. Congrats to the Mixo team on launch! can't wait to see what's next.
