Hi again Product Hunters! @tofumatt and I launched Mic Drop here a few years ago, and now, we're back for more! We've listened to loads of your feedback over the years and we've rewritten the app from the ground up, adding new features, improving performance, and finessing the design.
Thousands of people rely on Mic Drop to keep them quiet during meetings, podcasts, and even online magic shows. (True story!) Featured on MacRumours and by Apple on the App Store, happy users tell us every day how much they love Mic Drop.
Since then, we’ve listened to all your feedback and rebuilt Mic Drop from the ground up. The same simplicity and ease-of-use you love, now with more customisation options, improved performance, and new tools to help you know when you’re muted.
Here's what’s in this version:
🔔 Audio notifications
🔴 New menubar icons
✅ Mic Check
🎹 New keyboard shortcuts
🤖 Scriptability & automations
⚡️ Rapid device swapping
🤐 Disable devices
🌟 Improved performance & reliability
It’s our biggest, shiniest, most-anticipated update ever. We know you’re going to love it—because it’s everything you asked for.
I'm unreasonably excited about this!
MicDrop has had a permanent home in my menu bar for several years now. I remember when a macOS update broke all microphone muting apps and I had to try everything that was available at the time. I eventually settled on MicDrop because it handled the transition in the most reliable way. It has been rock solid ever since.
I love all the new additions, especially the new [ON AIR] / [OFF AIR] menu bar icons. Also looking forward to trying out the new Mic Check window — seems like it could be useful for important meetings where you don't want to be accidentally off mute. Big 🫶
@mfilej Oh thank you so much for sharing this! ❤️ We really do try to make Mic Drop as reliable as we possibly can.
I spent some time designing those new menu bar icons and I think the on air/off air icons might be my favourite too—I didn’t think it’d work in such a small space, but it should give some extra prominence for people who’ve asked for things to be just a littttttle bit “louder” visually.
We’ve definitely heard from lots of users who say they’d like more ways to know they’re muted, which is why we’ve built in extra features like Mic Check, notifications, etc. Let us know how you find it!
