We've been anticipating today for 2+ years now and it's surreal to finally open up Maven to the world. This is a HUGE step towards our vision for building the university of the future πŸ›οΈ The quality of courses already on the platform is second to none, and I'm so excited to welcome a whole new wave of instructors to Maven!

Hey Product Hunt fam πŸ‘‹ Maven is one of the very few startups which has the utmost belief in empowering creators and building tools that they can use seamlessly. It's been inspiring watching them build and grow. Creating a course is a daunting task but Maven Course Builder makes it super easy for creators to turn their expertise into a course. All that for free. Try it and let Gagan, Wes, Shreyans, and the rest of the team know your feedback. They are here to answer any questions. Drop your comments below πŸ‘‡

Maven’s UI is excellent. The learning experience seamless. They really make it easy for experts to share what they know without getting caught up in web building.

@espreedevora Means a lot thanks Espree ❀️

Interesting nice work! Some questions 1. What kind of topics will be taught initially? 2. What are the big reasons of Maven vs Udemy? 3. What kind of price point is it for the customer (eg student) and commitment?
Runqiu (Rachel) Cai
@jasondainter Hey Jason, thank you for the support! 1. The topics offered on Maven tend to be professional learning / tech. Most of the students taking courses work in tech or business. Our most popular categories are Product, Marketing, Design. But with this launch, we expect that the variety of courses will increase! 2. The big difference is that Maven focuses on live/hybrid learning ("cohort-based courses") and Udemy is purely video-based course. Cohort-based courses (CBCs) are different from video-based courses because they are interactive, hands-on, with clear start & end-dates for accountability. They have 90%+ completion rates (compared to 4-10% for video-based courses) and are way more engaging. 3. Price point for the student varies a lot but most courses are $400-1000 in price. Hope you'll check out the platform!

The number of times over the last two years we've excitedly wondered when we'd launch 'self-serve'...it's a lot. I'm amazed it's finally happened, and thrilled to see the wonderful and surprising courses that you all will create. Topics we never imagined, niches we'd never explored, passionate experts teaching for the first time and bringing together eager students from all over the world - there's going to be a lot more of this, and we're excited to help make it happen.
Madeleine Barr
@shreyans___ You consistently unlock creativity on our team, now we get to do that for instructors all over the internet 🎨 I'm so excited to see what amazing things people build!
Ridd
@shreyans___ Gotta give you credit for always being the one pushing for it :)

I've been running online courses independently, inside of corporations, and for unis. Out of everything I've used in all of these places, Maven is my favorite platform. Hyped that the world gets access to it.
Kyle Lubieniecki
I've worked in Edtech for over 5 years and I've been following Maven since their early days. There is a strong need for industry-based learning and who better to learn new skills from than the experts themselves. I'm excited that anyone can now gain skills from experts and experts can grow their brand and audience. I'll call it the Shopify for educators.
Ridd
@kylelubieniecki heyyyy I like that one!
Runqiu (Rachel) Cai
@kylelubieniecki Love that! I couldn't agree more.
Darshan Gajara
Congrats on the launch, Maven team!

πŸ•ΊSuper excited to finallyy invite all future teachers to Maven. For me teaching has always been a passion and with this launch Maven has made it so much easier to take a course idea to fruition. Now that so much administrative work to teaching is made simple, I can’t wait to see what y’all make 🀘
Runqiu (Rachel) Cai
@armaani96 Woohoo! Couldn't have done it without you. The product looks and feels amazing thanks to you. You've driven so much impact in a short period of time!

I made my first course on Udemy 10 years ago when it was still in its infancy and have experienced two lasting things: 1/ I still make a cup of coffee's worth of money on that course per month to this day. This blows my mind, especially considering the audio/video quality of it was so bad and it wasn't exactly about a hard-skill you could use right away (creativity). I learned that distribution does make a difference and Udemy delivered on this. 2/ the process of making that course was so taxing that I never thought I could muster up the courage and energy to do it all over again. And sure enough, I have yet to produce another course after that. And now I find myself with Maven back where I was sort of was with Udemy. Only the Maven team has learned A LOT since then (and I may have forgotten much of the pains of creating a course). So now that this self-builder tool is in our hands AND with the ability to interact with students, I again have to ask myself: is this going to be the year I finally create another course? I don't know! But what I do know is that the team behind this is so strong and the thought behind this so compelling that I'm feeling excited about the prospect of doing it again. So who knows - I might see you in a course nearby :)
Ridd
@alirtariq Yesssss do it Ali!
Runqiu (Rachel) Cai
@alirtariq Ali, I love this comment. Trust me that creating a cohort-based course on Maven is lightyears easier than what you went through 10 years ago. You'll have more fun interacting with students too. Hope to see your course on our marketplace soon enough!
