Apple today introduced an all-new MacBook Air, bringing a stunning 13-inch Retina display, Touch ID, the latest processors and an even more portable design to the world’s most loved notebook.
@rrhoover noooo, portability for the win! The battery life is fantastic too. For me that's much more important so I'm excited there's an upgrade! (I have the early 2015 model) But why did they kill magsafe?? That I will never understand. Just why. The perfect charger just gone.
1200$ for a laptop with dual core processor and DDR3 RAM in no way justifies the premium Apple is asking for it. No matter how good the retina display is.
Pros:
Build quality and the hardware software integration
Not agree, it will work for the next 3-4 years with no downsides if you will treat the laptop properly. Speaking of Windows laptops, you're going to spend half of the price each year and going to hassle with all cons of Windows.
@dr_dimitru Don't be so sure. My <2 years old MacBook Air just recently stopped working without as much a scratch. And Apple gave me a repair quote of 400$. So I think I have a right to be skeptical about their longevity.
@saifalfalah then you shouldn't add "Build quality" to pros.
I'm happy with MBP 15" 2012 and MBA 13" 2014 so far so good, minor repairs and battery replacements, total maintenance cost around $600 during last 6 years
@dr_dimitru I don't consider longevity being equivalent to build quality. Build quality is when you can lift the lid of your laptop with just the tip of your finger. It's when it doesn't wobble when you type hard.
Longevity is a different issue altogether. My laptop is in pristine condition on the outside. On the inside, the battery is dead and the fan is kaput.
@saifalfalah Not agree again, maybe sadly nowadays "Build quality" means only book's cover of the product, I still believe it should correspond to the whole product.
@joshuapinter Not everybody is a developer and/or designer. Our Account Execs, Community Managers and events people have more than enough horsepower available with an Air.
Apple Co. is becoming attractive and interesting, only for "crazy rich" and well accomplished people.. And most importantly more greedy!
Apple definitely need to replace the CEO, Tim Cook with someone else.. Otherwise he will screw up the hard earned reputation of Apple.
@dayaldave Yes, they have been slowly increasing the price of the product this last year. However, Apple's products were always premium. It's just that they've become even more premium. And even though that's sad, I don't think it was unexpected.
This to me is the nail in Apple's "lack of innovation coffin". This is a repackaged Macbook Pro in a new chassis. For $100 more, just get the Macbook Pro...if you're spending over $1000 anyway. Does the ~.25lb weight difference mean that much? Am I missing something that the MBP doesnt have that the new MBA does?
The Air isn't aimed at the "lets count features" crowd. Instead, it is a rock solid workhorse that goes on working year after year after without as much as a hiccup. The Airs in our office get used by Account staff, financial staff, events teams and culinary teams. They take heaps of abuse and keep on ticking.
Pros:
Goes on working for years without needing expensive support. Both hard and software are rock solid. More than adequate for office tasks.
Cons:
Can't think of any. Lack of IT support hours more than offsets initial cost of purchase.

Very nicely-designed product, but a lot of the price goes into their marketing of it.
Pros:Nice design. Lots of apps and software available.
Cons:Overpriced, impossible to work on or upgrade, everything is proprietary.

1200 is an insane price for mediocre hardware. Better off buying a razer blade if you need performance
Pros:None. Same old laptop. Just a little polished.
Cons:Overpriced.
