The New Macbook Pro — A new Macbook Pro with the M1 chip

The Apple M1 chip gives the 13‑inch MacBook Pro speed and power beyond belief. With up to 2.8x CPU performance. Up to 5x the graphics speed.

Only 2 USB-C ports and up to 16GB RAM is a bit of a bummer...

@thecharleskerr I thought the same. Apparently how they use the ram is as equivalent to previous RAM offerings. Time will tell...

Maxes out at 16gb ram? UGH.

It's hard to believe top 1 brand on this planet has a major laptop update with merely a new chip no matter how Apple style cliché adjectives describe it.

I hope this doesn't suffer from the same thermal issues as the previous MBP. Also saw Among us demoed on this 👀 Apple also launched today: The New Mac Mini and the new Macbook Air

@aaronoleary ARM processors only output a small fraction of the heat of CISC CPUs like Intel. I think LinusTech found that Apple had to actually thermally throttle (underclock) the last-gen Pros (even with it burning my lap half the time). This has some active cooling, but that means they can totally overclock on demand (Macbook air has no fans at all). 20-hour battery life is no joke (and proves it's efficiency). It won't be for people like me yet (well, I'm eying the MacBook air maybe for office, messaging, and home usage), and those who want to run virtualization, run PC games, and have and develop for legacy apps. Some computationally intensive things like Image/Video/Sound might be okay with their ML chip (we will need to wait for benchmarks). It'll take a while for libraries for open-source stuff to be ported, but I imagine the iOS ecosystem will fill in some blanks nicely. In all, I think more competition will be great in the CPU ecosystem, and at least this merges the iOS and Pro products together, hopefully resulting for Apple better margins which they will pass down to us with better R&D and products (because you know they won't lower the price too much LOL). It also makes engineering less siloed between mobile/non-mobile. That's a plus too. I'm probably going to wait for benchmarks before I decide on anything. For most of us the longer we wait for our must-have apps to be ported over, the better.

Hopefully, the new M1 chip compensates for the lack of RAM options.

If M1 delivers as Apple presented, even the haters will consider buying the upgrade. Yes it's 1299 for a MacBook pro, but look at the specs of the M1...Can't wait (and will wait) for the reviews 🙈

As a developer, I'd like to see some benchmark reviews between intel i7/i9 mbps vs the m1 chip, specifically around web tools like webpack.

Imagine paying $1300 for a computer with 8gb ram and 256gb of storage? embarrassing

I really like the idea ,I know ram is minimum even they will optimize but we cant upgrade,But this is new future that I can say :) waiting for How it will perform.

what are you talking about?

Can you please confirm if this can be used for training ML models yet? (PyTorch, Keras, TF, Scikit and SciPy, and the likes?)
