This is super cool. I actually built something that used the browser APIs to do screen recordings for a tool in the support space and there were some tricky parts I had to figure out to make it work well. This allows people to quickly add screen recording to their products without having to figure out those tricky parts. Is there a live demo of the no download/install web recorder anywhere?

@ramykhuffash yeah it gets really tricky when you need to account for global scale, performance, and multi-browser support too! We don't yet have a live demo, but you can check out the upcoming Trello integration. :-) https://www.loom.com/share/d8215... Please do apply if you have a use case! 🙏🏾 https://info.loom.com/sdk-beta-r...

Hey ProductHunt 👋 The loomSDK public beta is finally here! You can now easily add a seamless video recording experience to your product without building it from scratch. From incorporating screen recordings into a support workflow to driving collaboration in your app, the possibilities are truly endless. Our team will be in the comments throughout the day answering any questions you have! 🚀

@_shahedk We have been using Loom for a while now to capture video but are excited to be able to build it into our product and bring the value of Loom to our customers at Notiv.

Hello Product Hunt! We’re incredibly excited to launch the loomSDK public beta today. The SDK makes it easy for builders to add screen and cam recordings to their own products with the world's fastest and most reliable video messaging infrastructure. The best part, it’s completely free. We’ve seen how often people use Loom to collaborate and to add more context and clarity to workflows inside other apps – from project management, to pull requests, to design reviews, to support tickets and more. Our hope is that the SDK makes this experience seamless, enabling users to record, embed, view, and interact with Loom videos directly within any web app. Users get 5 complimentary recordings without having to sign up or download a recorder. After that, they’ll be prompted to sign up for our free Starter plan to continue recording. We're also launching with a few partners today, including Trello, Miro, Hugo, Trainual, MarkUp, and Linear. Keep an eye out for when video messaging goes live on these platforms over the following weeks! To get started, visit https://info.loom.com/sdk-beta-r... We’re so excited to see what you build and would love to hear your questions and feedback! Happy building!

@vhmth Great product from the great team! Congrats 🚀

@vhmth as If this idea wasn't great to begin -- the fact that it's already integrated with some the most common tools we use today makes it a no brainer! Great work guys! @_shahedk This is very impressive even for you guys!

OMG that's brilliant. This will help us do better customer support at Mailman. Question: do the end user need to have any system requirements to satisfy? Any specific browser requirements? Just imagine how quickly we can fix bug reports with loomsdk. 😎

@mohitmamoria any browser that can handle getUserMedia (grabbing a camera/screen/mic stream) and MediaRecorder can use the loomSDK. We make this easy for you to check with a single flag so you don't have to do this feature detection yourself. All of the most modern of the major browsers currently provide the MediaRecorder API. :-) https://caniuse.com/mediarecorder

Congratulations on the launch. We got our API key yesterday. Can't wait to give it a try. Do you have plans for more deep integration? For example, the ability to download the raw video and upload it back on the same Loom URL after editing? @vhmth @_shahedk

@_shahedk @abhinavsohani Hey Abhinav - so stoked you got an SDK key! Can't wait to see what you all build. :-) We don't support the ability to download the raw video. I take it this is for the purposes of being able to edit with Recast and then re-send to Loom right?
Abhinav Sohani
@_shahedk @vhmth Yes, that's what I meant. 1. User records the video and uses our video highlight tool(pick a particular part of the video to share on social media.) 2. User records the video and uses our advanced editor to make changes before re-sending it to Loom.

@_shahedk @abhinavsohani understood - gracias for the feedback and walking me through that flow Abhinav! Our team will noodle on it!

Nice excited to try this out so that our Beta Users can send us Looms of any issues or ideas they have. So if 50 users were to create Looms today in our app, do we have control over where they get sent? Can we push them to Notion, Slack, Intercom etc... for the team to review
Vinay Hiremath
Top Product

@connorpm when a user creates a Loom via the LoomSDK integrated into your app, you have full control over where you send/ferry that Loom to from there! If you check out the YouTube video on this post, you'll see that there are hooks for "onInsertClicked", "onStart", "onStop", "onCancel", etc. We worked really hard to make sure you get all the info you need to embed and send the video where you'd need it to go in the context that makes the most sense for your app. :-)

@vhmth and @_shahedk : Great stuff. Big fan of Loom. Quick question - is it possible to customize the permissions popup? Can it be whitelabeled?
Vinay Hiremath
Top Product
Maker
@_shahedk @ak_kshay thank you Akshay! Could you show me what permissions pop up you mean? If it's the one in the browser in the upper left, there's no way to change the UI of that unfortunately.
AD
@_shahedk @vhmth Thanks, Vinay. Yes, I meant the popup with the Start recording button. I was just thinking of a use case where businesses may want to provide their users a white label experience of recording videos. Regardless, this is really promising.

@_shahedk @ak_kshay ah I see! As of right now we're not considering a white label experience. That being said, we are going to be piloting an enterprise SDK tier that will be more customizable. Out of curiosity, which elements do you think would be interesting for customizing?
AD
@_shahedk @vhmth Got it. From my experience working with enterprise customers, they usually ask for the world :P . But, logo , color theme for buttons is what I have seen a lot. And language! Yes, language. Going into different geographies, ability to customize language depending upon the user preference is a delighter for some enterprise customers.

@_shahedk @ak_kshay interesting point on language!

Is this going to have a limit of 5 min as you have for the free account?
Julia Szatar
Top Product
Maker
@shyamal890 Hey Shaymal! The same 5 minute limit does apply if the user isn't signed up (their first 5 recordings through the SDK) or if they are and they're on a free account. If they're on a paid account, they will have no limits and still be able to use the SDK anywhere they see record buttons.
Lorenzo Carver
Loom is ideal for this. I was literally hoping they would release something like this and pleasantly surprised when it showed up in my inbox. Signing up right after voting up.

@rrhoover absolutely - an integration with PH makes the most sense! Who should we be talking to to make this happen?

@rrhoover Just in case, you would want a white label solution, StoryXpress has it 😉 We are already building it for 3 enterprises -- imgur.com/Q0KEQDm
