Local is the #1 free, local WordPress development tool, now with the ability to push to Flywheel and WP Engine. We make it super simple to spin up a local WordPress site, develop it, share it, and take it live. Available for Mac, Windows and Linux.
Wow, this is great! This is going to make life a whole lot easier. Is Flywheel the only host supported or are there other options for moving from local to production?
@kieranmcgrady Currently Local supports host connection to Flywheel and WP Engine. The team hopes to expand to other host providers in the future, fill out this form to cast your vote: https://localwp.com/host-interest/
I'll also mention that a number of Local users also leverage services such https://www.deployhq.com/ to deploy a repo to a production site
I’ve been using Local for a long time and it’s changed how I work with WordPress. The new release is extremely fast and handles big sites like a champ. Now that WPE owns Flywheel, this product should continue to grow for years to come.
The WP Engine integration works flawlessly. It also runs quickly compared to other GUI local WordPress development environments I've used in the past. It's easy enough for just about any web designer or developer to use, which is really quite something. Almost zero configuration needed.
Hey Product Hunt! Thanks for checking out Local 🎉. I’m super proud of the work that our team has done to invest in the future of this product, and over the last six months, we’ve assessed our role in the WordPress community and where Local fits in.
Thanks to the smaller file size and requirements of our newest release, Local is now easier to install and runs wonderfully on low-end PCs, increasing access to great development tools (like Connect to Flywheel and WP Engine). This means more developers will be able to start building WordPress locally than ever before, and we’re so excited to continue empowering the community to create great work.
I can’t wait to hear what you think, and feel free to drop any questions you may have below! ⬇️
Okay, I bought it. Tried it for a few days and i really love it.
I don't love working on wordpress sites, but if I have to do it, doing it through Localwp makes it SO smooth.
Good work!
All free platforms usually slow down very much. They can't be appropriately modified, and I get annoyed. It's better to find a paid WordPress development service that will work without bugs and endless page-loading than to endure a braking system and get tired of your anger. I always use the same service. It allows me to save all my developments on one account. Clients are happy with the way I prescribe their beautiful blogs. Many of them have now stopped using Etsy and switched to their sites.
Are multi-site/multi-network deployments working as of yet? I like Local and have been following them for a while now. Looking forward to trying it on my network. :)
