It's sad to see that startups aren't helping push the body positive movement and helping people realise they don't need retouching or blemish removal to look great. Apps like this can only add to peoples insecurities showing them what fake perfection looks like. If Dove, CVS, ASOS and MAC are pushing this movement. Why isn't silicone valley?
Pros:
- Seems like a very functional product that does what it says
Cons:
- Portrays that AI/Retouching is needed to look attractive
Come on, this only tweaks the small things like pimples, yellow teeth etc. Not liking it is like being against wearing concealer. It doesn't let you make faces unrecognizable.
This is a great topic, too, because if people don't like something about themselves that can be corrected, then maybe apps can / need to start to support self-correction. As in, maybe selfie apps need to be married with personal trainer, life coach, and doctor services
Or, we could just let people make up their own minds. Treat them like adults and give them freedom of choice instead of calling for censorship of apps that don't follow our SJW agenda.
As for the Silicon Valley reference, according to Wikipedia, the Prisma team is located in Moscow, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Not all innovation happens in Silicon Valley. You'd be surprised what smart people can do with the right resources. Location is less of an issue these days.

@robjbye Hey Rob that's a good point, thank you for your comment! We're not about to push users to make fake pictures of themselves. We aim to help people to take better photos reducing flaws of lighting conditions and limitations of a smartphone camera in general.
@usoltt Totally understandable that lighting and improving DoF is there, however the lead feature is Retouching and Blemish Removal. I would question the use of the lead photo to support this as it implies the woman with slight blemishes needs to remove them to look better.
Hey Product Hunters!
I’m so exited to announce today a new magical product Lensa created by Prisma Labs’ team.
We’re on a path to create an AI that automates photo and video editing routine. Allowing everyone to get amazing professional grade results editing their photos in a matter of seconds. This release is just a first step.
The first version is focused on portrait photos and selfies. It has automated face retouch feature that defines blemishes and removes them without having users to select anything manually. Also, it provides Bokeh effect based on very precise portrait segmentation which allows to run it on a single camera devices with no depth sensors. We’ve implemented camera lens correction and a bunch of other cool tools as well.
Give it a try!
Eagerly waiting for your feedback!
P.S. Android version is coming in the beginning of 2019.
I can see how your tech from Prisma (an app many of used) is making its way to different use cases.
How did you decide to build Lensa and how does it compare to similar apps like Facetune, @usoltt?
@rrhoover Hey Ryan, great to hear from you! Prisma users processed over 4 Billion pictures using the app. We estimated that about 70% of them are selfies or portrait photos. So, considering that fact we've focused on that type of photography at the first place.
Lensa's competitors provide users with manual tools. It take a lot of time, efforts and requires to learn some skills to edit pictures manually. Lensa's key advantage is automation. In the first version we have automated face retouch feature that removes blemishes, softening light and skin tone while not requiring manual selection. Besides the automation, natural look of the result is our highest priority.
That is a perfect one-click photo-editing tool for selfies and portraits. The app shoots and processes your selfies as it was made by a professional photographer but at the same time keeps your portraits to look natural. I love it because the app is easy to use and it doesn't require you to do any touch-ups, the processing works like magic.
I downloaded this on my iPad and was very sad to discover that it’s not optimized for iPads so I just get a tiny iPhone screen (or a stretched version of that).... come on, it’s bad enough that even Instagram does not have a tablet app, let’s not encourage them.
Anyhow, the retouch actually looks pretty nice! It can be a huge time saver. It’s the opposite of Facetune: instead of letting you manually tweak everything freestyle it give you a few sliders that take care of the little things for you, i.e. pimples, messy backgrounds, lens distortion. It’s good that the final result doesn’t look fake or like a different person. Just looks like a nicer photo. And all that completely free (at least for now.)
With that said, the skin looks pretty fake after 6/10 in my opinion and it still misses some pimples that would be very obvious to a human eye ;) Keep it up!
@anna_0x Hey Anna, thank you for such a detailed feedback! We'll release an iPad version later, stay tuned! Our team is constantly iterating to improve our algorithms for best results. I hope that upcoming updates will impress you even more! :-)
really liked the app, simple and effective, does not degrade the quality and does not leave the photo looking very artificial, the controls in the free mode are reasonable, not needing much for who does not want to edit more productively.
What I missed most was the absence of saving the geotagged photo, for me, this option is essential in my photos, since I use a lot of the location of the photos to create personalized albums of places I visit and share with friends, without this option or just the Lensa app already take the photo with the location in the EXIF of the photo, I have to edit and add manually by another application.
I sent an email with this suggestion so that in the next versions of Lensa, there is how to take photos and the location is already activated, so the app would become the best at that point.
Pros:
Great app for one-touch editing, great on how to edit in a natural way.
Cons:
Lack of geotag and file type options (JPG or HEIC)
First, congratulations on this great app.
As I said in my review, one function that I missed a lot is the app's ability to take photos and save the location with them, I would like to give this suggestion so that future versions of Lensa will be able to apply the location, it would improve a lot for people who use and create custom photo albums, such as travel and holiday dates in new places.
I see that for this year they intend to launch their app, for Android. I think you better know that the Android market is still growing faster than the iPhone. Excellent project
Pros:
The implementation of AI to the world of photography will bring us closer every day to obtain better results with a non-professional camera.
This is a great app. The key is that it gives you an immediate version of your photo that is very nice without being overdone. The #UX is outstanding.
Question: Is there an app that does this to a video - or do you plan to build one? @usoltt

I would not recommend it to anyone who is not willing to pay a monthly subscription and an expensive one in this case for what you are getting
Pros:It can add blur to an image background
Cons:You can not do anything without the premium subscription. Not even save a photo with any of the effects.
