Kaizen is a music streaming platform that allows artists to release their music early and update it over time. Listeners can give feedback, support, and experience the creative process from the beginning.
Hello Product Hunt community!
I am a first time founder so I'm very excited and, sure, a bit nervous to be sharing my product here on Product Hunt! Kaizen is a music streaming platform that lets artists release their music before it's finished and update it over time, similar to how we build software. A song or album can be released as version 1.0, go through changes, then be updated and rereleased as version 2.0. These updates can continue for as long as as artist is inspired or their fans continue to support the song or album. Fans can listen, give feedback, and financially support the music from the beginning. It's a big idea! But we think it's really important.
--Why are we making this?--
I worked in music professionally for about 7 years and a consistent problem that I, and other artists, faced was delaying the release of their music because of a fear of an unsuccessful release (or launch if you will). In software, we understand that launching is an important step to finding out what to build next and ultimately to creating something great but music creators have never had this freedom. Up until now, music has only been given one chance to release with little to no feedback along the way. This makes music creation extremely risky and potentially wasteful. The music making process itself should be another opportunity for fans to relate to their favorite artists and support them along the way. Personally, I wanted to release my music this way. So that's what I'm doing!
--Are there artists out there that want to release their music in this way?--
Well, ya... ME! But not just me. We have a number of artists that have already been actively using the platform during our development process. We're also fortunate enough to have an artist like me who has been diagnosed with severe perfectionism, the exact problem we're trying to solve. My years of working in music with other artists are enough evidence to me that I am not alone.
Along with the launch of Kaizen 1.0 I've released version 1.0 of my album called Forgive exclusively on Kaizen. This will be an art experience and showcase of the new creative freedom that Kaizen provides to artists. I'd love if you followed along by signing up and following me on Kaizen.
Love the concept. Versioning music is a compelling idea and something that might encourage me to finally publish some of the WIP music I've been creating in Abelton.
@rrhoover That makes me so happy to hear! Our platform has a community that is so supportive of new music too. Would LOVE for you to be a part of it with us. Would love to hear what you're working on and excited about too!
Kaizen could enable tons* of product-building methodologies to be applied to music: community, building in public, A/B testing, etc. Great idea. I will share this. If you'd like, I'll connect you with a friend of mine who has a small record label β just connect on LinkedIn, and I'll set it up. Congrats!
Hi @blake_whittington ! Your feedback is inspiring. That kind of culture around music is so much of what we get excited about too. That would be fantastic, I'd love the intro! I'll follow you on LinkedIn.
Extremely interesting tool! Would be interesting to see collaboration features where others can download the song and edit it as well (Like on Github).
@critic_rwps I am a big fan of this ideaaa π I think you're very in sync with our team!
I REALLY appreciate that you think it's interesting. Are you a music creator as well?
@bengalthetiger I would position myself as an electronic music geek. I like exploring different artists genres and sub genres. I am also doing some Djing as a hobby. Kaizen would be interesting to me as an exploration tool
Congratulations on the launch! @bengalthetiger π₯ This seems so great for musicians like me who always wait to compose/record the perfect version and show it to the world!
The community needed this! Thanks a bunch!
Congratulations! How exciting! What a great idea! It's about time too really. With all this hype about how people don't socialize properly this is a way to show how well things actually can go. Encouraging and being able to help musicians shape the music industry when most of us can't sing or play anything but have a great ear for music, makes us feel good that you value our opinions too. Music is so personal and so powerful and thank you for allowing everyone to be included into that world. Gives closet artists purpose. Stay brave and courageous, and extreme blessings to you all in your music careers. I KNOW this will be huge! Kick ass!! π€βοΈπΈπΆ
p. s. I know what ya mean about that failure feeling.... me too π. Karma
@karma3@karma3 100%!!! So, two nights ago we had a launch & listening party here in LA where we talked about Kaizen but also played through my album called Forgive that is still unfinished. (1.0 version) and I talked about the back story of each song and where it's going with a lot of my fans. We basically did exactly what you're describing and what Kaizen offers but in person and it was magical. Everyone felt so invested and I got to bring people who care about me and my music along for the journey and now I'm way more excited about working on the project more and releasing v2.0 of it.
Congratulations on the launch, and thank you for bringing this ground-breaking platform to the world! The concept of releasing music in iterative versions, just like software development, is truly game-changing. It's empowering for artists to have the ability to refine and update their work over time, all while engaging with their fans for feedback and support.
The days of delaying releases due to fear of failure are over!
The growing community of artists actively using the platform are so incredibly talented. I'm excited to follow Kaizen's journey, and experience the new creative freedom that the platform offers.
Wishing you all the best with Kaizen 1.0 and the future versions to come. Kudos to the peeps at Kaizen for revolutionizing the music industry with this big idea!
Thank you @john_price_kp ! Would love to know your thoughts. Since it's something that is driven by a personal mission towards music expression, we recognize it's a very unique product which can be really exciting for everyone involved and the users but it can also come with risks in the market!
