Congrats @samiur1204 and co!!
Got a chance to play with the new Journal a few days ago and I’m super impressed with how easy it was to start collecting links and notes and create something that I’d be excited to share! I've got something fun coming out soon with Journal for Divinations, my newsletter.
Also think their focus on the individual’s productivity will be really helpful for a lot of creative people. Find out more about that here: https://blog.usejournal.com/intr...
Thanks for hunting us @nbashaw! Hey Product Hunters! 👋
Today, I’m proud to launch Journal 2.0 for Desktop: the productivity tool that helps you make space to breathe, think and create.
Modern productivity tools are built to support teams, not individuals. We don’t think that should be the case. That’s why we’re building Journal to empower you the individual, to encourage your creative process, and support your well being along the way.
Journal will:
- Give you peace of mind knowing that all your content is in one easily accessible place.
- Be considerate of your mental health.
- Be your simple organization system that appreciates imperfection, and offers as much support as you need.
- Help you turn messy ideas into beautiful projects that you’re proud to share with friends, co-workers, and the public.
- Focus on you first, not just your team at work, and help you bring your personal and professional projects to life.
Whether you’re celebrating deserving people in your industry, designing the WFH setup of your dreams, or launching your app on Product Hunt 😻, Journal will help you bring meaningful projects to life.
It’s a productivity tool that gives you space to organize all your ideas so that you can keep your projects moving forward and your head clear.
Here’s how it can help you:
☁️ Make a Space for every project.
Spaces make it easy to organize, share, and collaborate on any topic or project.
Examples:
- Celebrating Black Creators in Tech: https://usejournal.com/app/space...
- Trip to Yellowstone and Jackson Hole: https://usejournal.com/app/space...
- Journal 2.0 Launch Scratchpad: https://usejournal.com/app/space...
- WFH Setups: https://usejournal.com/app/space...
💡 Keep your inspiration flowing.
When you see something you want to remember, instantly save it to Journal and organize it later. Anytime you feel a thought bouncing around your head, write it down.
🧠 Leave no idea behind.
When your notes and links and files and emails are all over the place, there’s no need to worry.
Inbox: Use your Inbox to quickly organize relevant content into your Spaces.
Search: Get back to everything you save in Journal. with a quick search.
Integrations: Connect apps like Gmail, Drive, and Slack, to find and add content from all your apps.
🧘♂️ Reclaim mental space
When you feel like time is flying by, take a moment to slow down. Reclaim mental space by pressing “Pause” once in a while. In the rare case we send you a notification, you can trust that it will include useful content.
🙌 Share your spaces for the world to see.
Spaces can be private, shared with select people, or made public for everyone. When you create something useful, share it with others!
If you’re excited by our mission or think Journal can help you bring your projects to life, join our community. We’d love for you to try Journal and tell us how we can make it better.
Nothing would make us happier than giving you some space to breathe, think and create.
@samdebrule Sam I'm trying to log in following the instruction from an email invite on the 22nd of June. They say:
Step 1:
Install Journal for Mac
Step 2:
Click 'Create an account'.
Step 3:
Copy and paste your invite code (everything including your email address) in the Mac app to sign up:
But when I click on create an account I am offered to sign up with Google or Apple.
I replied to that email twice seeking your help and you didn't respond.
@mordodemaru So sorry, Jordi. Not sure how I missed the email.
We don't require an invite code anymore to sign up, but we do require that members sign up with Google or Apple. If you select one of the options after clicking 'create an account', you should be able to get started.
Will track down the email and follow up with you there as well.
Hi there, quick question. Can this app dig through my gmail accounts so I can save inspirations or emails or do i have to forward various thigns to a different email address?
also - I just started using Workflowy to start gathering ideas together and realise that it would be ACE to be able to toggle between the two or find a way of sharing my collecitons of ideas (sometimes it's hard to just save an image, etc in workflowy or link to an email or article in a newsletter, etc
🎉 Big congratulations to you @samiur1204 & the journal team!
I've been using Journal for a little over 2 months while building LearnStash.com and it's quickly become my main way of saving and organizing the crazy amount of personal development resources I find on a daily basis.
I love that with the chrome and safari extensions + iOS flight test app, I'm able to save everything I'm finding with ease. And then when I'm ready to review everything I've saved, it reminds to me organize my inbox. So helpful!
We'll definitely be featuring this in our productivity apps & tools collection when we launch in a few weeks.
💙 Emilio from Learn Stash
Started using Journal 2.0 a week ago after waiting for my opportunity to access the application. Still getting to know it better, but so far a great experience. Will fill many of my needs. Well done!
Congrats on the launch @samiur1204!
First discovered Journal early last year, and it's only gotten better and better. Sam's taken a really thoughtful approach to building something genuinely nice to use. Definitely recommend checking it out to see if its right for you 🙌
@nickdeshpande Hi Nick, thanks so much! An Android app is in the horizon, but in the meantime, you can actually use our Progressive Web App on Android. I'm an Android user myself, and we've done a lot of work to make our mobile web app responsive and functional. There's a few more improvements to be made, but I definitely use it daily and find value in it! And with PWAs, you can even use it as a share target to save things!
To "install" the PWA, go to https://usejournal.com/app on Chrome on Android and hit the menu button, and hit "Add to Home Screen". It'll actually be added like an app!
Congratulations @samiur1204 and the team! I've been using journal for a couple of months, and I find it incredibly helpful in organizing the data stream that comes in to me on a daily basis for my work. I find the amount and type of different sources of information I have to deal with overwhelming at times, and journal helps with that. I can capture and search websites and share to the browser and mobile apps, but importantly journal hooks into slack, evernote and gmail so I have one place where I can search data that flows in automatically. I can also organize items into "spaces" for projects if I need to, and that also is a tremendous help. Overall a unique help in organizing my data. Hopefully it continues to flourish and grow!
@samiur1204, loving this new Journal!
Have been meaning to start journaling again and love the ease of use and organization for my old and new projects and ideas!
Super Thanks!
Journal has become an important day-to-day tool for me due to the impressively low friction getting content in and out.
Between a mobile app (iOS), desktop app, web app, and desktop/mobile browser-integration it's always right where I need it no matter what context or environment I happen to be in.
In the roughly two months I've had it, I've created spaces to: plan a personal home remodeling project, capture different desk/chair/computer options for my suddenly critical home office setup, and research corporate culture elements across companies for inspiration as my team and I dive deeper into our own core values.
@samdebrule you guys have done a great job creating something that's flexible, functional, and a pleasure to use. Thank you! Best of luck continuing to develop and scale this product :)
Journal is the first productivity & organizer tool I've tried - and I've tried a LOT - that doesn't add to my stress, or end up feeling like yet another 'thing' to maintain. I've been using Journal for a few months and have found its design (including recent updates) to be a refreshing blend of functional and simplistic. Love the chrome extension and multiple ways to organize, and ESPECIALLY love the 'pause' prompt - truly a standout. Excited to keep using and start sharing spaces.
@samdebrule@samiur1204 - thanks for a great product!
Looking forward to using Journal to support research. It allows me to collect all types of content and see everything at a glance. I like the focus on creating a calming space too.
I am loving using journal. Been collecting resources, including podcasts, articles, videos, pdfs, and emails and putting them all into a beautiful space to access when needed. So much better than plowing through a long list of links to find the thing I want. And I love the reminder to breathe! @samdebrule
A truly useful tool - I was sceptical at first, but this tool just integrates and allows me to sort, group and gather my thoughts with little effort.
The Journal team have a great product on their hands, and for me, this is an App that is Pinterest and so much more....
I stumbled across the tool, gave it a go and am hooked. Posting live location reports from GPS into the Journal when out walking, saving recipes that I want to try out, putting all my thoughts in one place, even collating video and image collections - this does it all.
@samiur1204 you and your team have a great product, and I cant wait to see what comes next.....
Been using this for about a month now, and it's one of those things you didn't realize how much you needed it until you start using it.This is one of the BEST tools for idea development! It's a lot like the old MacOs application "Guy Friday" a free-form database application, but WAYYYY BETTER!!!! Kudos to the developers...Journal ROCKS!!!
