@jackdweck Don't worry, you'll be able to find this in every other phone and tablet manufactured that Apple doesn't make. They only killed it for iOS devices; the rest of the device manufacturers will just laugh and continue to include them.
@nivo0o0 Sure but "best" is now delivering marginal utility. Cheaper phones serve most users just fine.
@nivo0o0 most mature categories no longer have individual "must have" product iterations - just look at cars, refrigerators, lightbulbs, televisions, etc. There's steady incremental improvement every year, but people only buy a new one when some external event triggers the need. No one buys a new TV just because a new TV was released that seemed like a big improvement.
Think people should relax about the headphone jack lol

@bentossell Yeah, me too. Generally, love the specs of these AirPods but was hoping for better design. I'll have to try them out for a week or two when they come out.
For headphones, the BeatsX look like a good option. I'd lose the airpods on the floor of the muni within a week.
@leachy114 Ofc they cost significantly more than the lightning ones but that how you do it right. Add extra 20$ or so to the cost of the phone. They just did incremental upgrade to the phone as compared to previous generations in-terms of design and technology. They could have easily showed the world that wireless is the way to go and that would push the demand for wireless headsets, in turn bringing the cost of wireless headphones down.
@sidrock28 Apple has 160 billion in the bank. I don't think they are going to be a charity anytime soon.
@joris_landkroon They do... Take a look at ConnectED and they also mentioned donating 50000 iPads. Apple is one company that takes the whole community forward and I love them for that. They also do take technology forward... They did that with the introduction of 2012 Retina MacBook Pro, introduced SSD when a 512 GB costed 800+ $ while selling it a little about the cost of a standard MacBook Pro at that time. See what happened they still sell at the same price but the price of SSD has gone down significantly. They took the whole industry forward. This is one of the many examples... I believe if Apple believes in Wireless then they should have added the AirPod as an accessory included in the iPhone 7. However I do believe Lightning headphone is better than aux headphones but not at the cost of inconvenience to iPhone users. Ask few questions. What happens if you have charge while playing music? What happens if you have a cool 3rd part accessory connected to the iPhone.
Ummmm...so, what happens when I want to listen to my music via my wired headphones and charge it? SOL I guess...or spring for the $159 option. Some 3rd-party (looking at you Griffin) to make a dongle to charge and listen simultaneously. For $40 probably.
@iamrandyellis Yeah this is so annoying. I hate dongles. Probably will not get iPhone anymore. It's just too annoying.

@james_osullivan the difficulty in plugging in a cable for mobile devices is most assuredly a First World problem
So how do I listen to music on my MacBook Pro if I only have Lightning headphones? The Earpods I got with the iPhone 6 are disintegrating (crap quality cable). Bluetooth headphones make my Bluetooth mouse go crazy so that's also a no.
That said, the dual focus camera (yay bokre!), water resistance and improved capacity are almost enough justification to upgrade.
Totally love the gloss. Jet Black... well a cheesy marketing trick to sell it to the semi-posh people. Sweet new finish but we all know they can do a lot more...

Wow, the image stabilizer is definitely a system-seller. People tend to underestimate the ability of Apple of transforming anyone into a legit content creator. This is always where the disruption happens.
Of all the new iPhone announcements this is definitely the one with the lowest expectations ever. However: I am very interested in raw format captures and new photo capabilities. Anyway, see no real reason to upgrade from an older 6 or 6s. And I love my many wired headphones!
Every new feature according to them is the best. Also every time they launch it's their best iPhone ever. They didn't even have a good pitch. So disappointed!

Rumour sites got the colours wrong. I was kinda looking forward to the blue. Happy with the Lightning audio.
Having had a bit of time to reflect, this is a pretty solid update. Not keen on the gloss black personally it looks like those really shiny black leather shoes that just look like cheap plastic. Maybe in person its not so bad?
