My journey started a few years ago when I moved to a low-income country to work as a doctor in vulnerable communities. I was shocked to see that there are still places in the world where people die from preventable causes or simple misunderstandings.

One case that has stayed with me was when a woman brought us her 7-day-old baby girl, who was struggling to breathe and had a fever of 39°C. From the first look, I knew it was an emergency requiring a hospital, not a rural clinic. But the mother didn’t even understand that her baby was in danger.

I immediately started ventilating the baby and asked the nurse to administer paracetamol. Then, I took the baby and her mother aside, explaining to the entire family why it was critical to get to the hospital. I could sense their hesitation—they didn’t fully grasp the urgency and thought I was exaggerating. They believed that because the baby was born in a hospital and not at home, she would be fine.

I still believe we only made it to the hospital because I insisted on going with them. I will never forget the mother's shocked face when we arrived, and her baby was immediately intubated upon admission. The little girl spent three weeks in the hospital fighting an infection but, fortunately, recovered.

After that, I witnessed countless similar cases—patients lacking knowledge, struggling with inaccessible healthcare services, and experiencing preventable suffering. At the same time, I faced my own burnout from living in that 24/7 reality.

It's not only about vulnerable communities, 4 billion people worldwide lack access to basic healthcare services, a third part of migrants fail to solicit medical consultations, public hospitals are overburned, and 40% of doctors leave clinical medicine (in the US, in some other countries even more), etc, etc
