Can one make money from open-source projects?

Hey guys, I have been following this wonderful community for a long time but never tried sharing my projects here. This time, I would love to use my knowledge to build a project of my own. By way of introduction, I am an embedded systems engineer by profession and completed my PhD in signal processing for robots. After finishing my PhD, I have been engaged in several open-source side projects. I truly believe in sharing knowledge, but I also want to use my skills to make money (like all of us here 😅). My question to the community is: has anyone here made money from open-source projects? Are there any examples or business models I can study to help build my future projects?
