Thanks @ngardideh! Right now we're charging a monthly subscription to researchers, academic labs & science-oriented non-profits to use the service rather than take a fee from the grant.
This is interesting. Are you focusing on a few fields to begin with? I wasn't able to see any information about what sort of funders you have on board. Thanks.
@gkay92 good question! Right now we're focused on connecting researchers in the biological sciences (specifically fields that have a conservation / ecological / evolutionary angle) with private funders. We're curious to know what fields you'd like us to focus on next.
@angelabraren Hm.. as I understand it, if you could get government bodies like the NIH on board, that would attract a lot of researchers specifically in the biomedical sciences(My field of work is computational biology).
@joelle_writes Cool! We're excited to get into CS in the future - thanks for suggesting a good niche to start in. What do you think makes it especially challenging to find the right match?
Met @gauri a few weeks ago and was immediately intrigued with the service. The benefits of Instrumentl extends beyond academia. Our company @nootrobox is a R&D-driven company and our science team in between coordinating and running trials is identifying and applying for grants. We'll be checking this out to see if we can accelerate our grant application efforts.
@geoffreywoo@nootrobox thanks so much for the support geoff! i got the team hooked on gocubes :)
we're starting with the biological sciences especially sciences that have a focus on conservation, but we'd LOVE to explore the world of grants for corps. perhaps @nootrobox could be one of our first corps?
I used to work in a research support division at a university and researchers were always struggling with 3 things: Where to find grants that make sense, properly formatting and gathering everything to apply, and getting the application in on time. Instrumentl would have been a godsend for them back in the day. It allows them to avoid what is tedious and get back to doing what they do best: doing good science.
Hey hunters!
My name is Angela and I'm the CEO and one of the creators of Instrumentl. We're a team of 4 former scientists, university administrators, and hackers who are trying to build a better system for science funding.
We're starting with a set of features we think will save researchers a ton of time. 1 - we match researchers with perfect grants 2 - researchers can apply to their matches via easy online application forms 3 - we handle any required formatting and make sure the application is complete before sending it off to the funder.
I'd love to hear your thoughts and answer any questions.
Thanks!
Angela
Nice! So many students are overwhelmed with the effort to find funding for really good projects without the support of faculty. Hope to see this helping out students and researchers a lot.
@johnexley This simultaneously addresses two inefficiencies: writing a grant proposal and the grant matchmaking process which seems totally unstandardized. With how much time researchers spend on grant-writing, seems extremely cost-effective if it works. Love this.
@mlakkur Hi Manu - thanks for asking! We match by getting to know each scientists project up close and then doing a deep dive into our world of private funders. Ultimately it's a combo of our technology, curation, and the relationships we're building with funders that make our matches.
