We've been working hard on lots of new email newsletter verticals. This one is curated by David Strom (strom.com), a veteran journalist who has been covering network technology and security for decades. He's a master at this stuff, and is doing a really fantastic job putting this newsletter together.
We've been beta testing it with a group of 50 security professionals, and the response has been fantastic. Happy to answer questions, and let us know what you think!
@awwstn Are you open to monetizing the newsletter via native/sponsored posts? If so, please connect me with someone on your side who can carry forward with the discussion. thx
@david__fortino thanks, that bug should be fixed going forward. Would love to chat about sponsorship opportunities! Let me know what you have in mind: a@inside.com
Thanks folks, we certainly need more eyes on cybersecurity topics. Was wondering about the following:
- why select a tech journalist and not a security blogger / journalist ?
- are you planning to keep one author only in the future ?
- how do I get on the beta distribution list ?
Thanks to the @producthunt community for giving us great feedback on what email newsletters to launch next. We are very bullish on [ Inside Security ] because the topic is getting more complex, global and important to everyone on the planet -- not just CSOs. This newsletter is also a departure for us, as we've partnered with legendary journalist David Strom (Strom.com), who I have always enjoyed reading.
In our other newsletters we've hired strong, intelligent and hard working b2b journalists, in this case we partnered with a legend (splitting revenue). We're hopeful we might find other legendary voices to partner with.
These days, if you're developing, and you're not expanding your stack, you're getting left behind. Great to have another source of input on very current tech to adapt to quickly. Thanks. Would like to see some tie ins/integration across all of the different LAUNCH verticals and channels, since I consume some and may not be aware of all of the newest or greatest, and since much of the content overlaps in one way or another. For instance, news about drones or autonomous cars that got hacked, or the lazy publishing of tokens to github from rushing bot developers. Should I see it in both places, or perhaps these things become their own content category/tags? Not sure what that is, but seems you guys are sitting on great data.
Thanks. Each newsletter is curated and written by separate humans, so there is some natural overlap but not as much (at least so far) as you would think. I will be focused more on B2B security, but will have some links to car hacks etc. as I find them interesting.
Well done, @jason, @awwstn, & @dstrom! I look forward to reading this regularly. InfoSec certainly is a rapidly developing field, I'm sure you won't have any trouble finding content! ๐
I really enjoy Inside's bite-sized delivery. As far as making it more engaging, (personally) I would maybe look into embedding relevant videos (maybe recent conference talks or something) and a calendar with upcoming events (conferences, CTF competitions, etc.)
Also, have you considered free or reduced subscription prices for .edu email address so broke college students such as myself can subscribe? Newsletters such as this are a great opportunity for students to see how what they are learning in the classroom is applicable to real-life. And hey, maybe you will have a new paying customer after graduation! ๐
It would be amazing if I could integrate the newsletter into slack for my team. Love the new security topic. Making it even more relevant for me. Thanks guys. I m curious to read and learn more.
It would be fantastic if there were app based and tied into my ISC CPEs. Regardless, I'm excited to see a better publication out there. I hope you are focused on quality like programmable web type articles and not sales material like most every other security publication. Regardless, thanks for your efforts. It isn't an easy job :-)
I'm pretty sure the whole "paid subscription but free for a year" thing was a test to see if users would value it more and therefore increase initial subscriptions. I can tell you, it worked on me. Though this is a serious topic and I'm looking forward to the insights.
@marvinvista we are looking at #fintech as one of our next 10 newsletters; it's a bit of a challenge as we need a very, very qualified journalist/voice to take on the complexities of both tech and finance to make a quality newsletter in #fintech. If you know any, do ping austin@inside.com
