Hey makers ๐Ÿ‘‹ Iโ€™m Alex, one of the co-founders of Iago, and I'm excited to also share that we've raised $1.5M from Reach Capital & Pear VC! Iago focuses on one of the most important aspects of the language: being able to speak conversationally. While building Iago we wanted build a language learning experience that focuses on the following principles: * Learning directly from what youโ€™re interested in * Focusing on practical conversation * Adopting a grammar-focused pedagogy As a result, weโ€™ve created Iago, the first open world curriculum โ€” empowering you to build your own path on the fly whilst implicitly learning grammar through conversational immersion. How Iago works ๐Ÿ‘‰: 1. ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต Tell us your goal and interests for learning Japanese 2. ๐Ÿ‘† Pick from a variety of situations (e.g. ๐Ÿ” Ordering Food, ๐Ÿฅœ Famous Lines from Anime, ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Small Talk & Intros) 3. ๐Ÿ“ Learn the relevant phrases through content curated by native Japanese speakers 4. ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Perfect your pronunciation through our speaking practice 5. ๐Ÿ’ฌ Put it all to the test with a final immersive conversation powered by generative AI 6. ๐Ÿ“ˆ Build your own path to fluency by picking situations youโ€™re interested in We currently only support Japanese ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต but we are planning to expand to other languages in the future! ๐Ÿ’ป: https://getiago.com ๐Ÿ“ฑ: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ia... P.S. The app is currently FREE for a limited time! Would love feedback about how we can make the best language learning experience for all!

@rty_op Thank you so much!

Interesting idea and congrats on the launch! I'm curious on the key advantage that differentiate it from other language learning tools such as Duolinguo?
Alexander Lee
@kelly_happicat Thank you! There are a couple of key proponents we want to focus on in building our curriculum: - Focus on practical speaking & conversation first - Make the curriculum open-world (meaning you can pick and choose what you'd like to learn) - Be explicit about grammar These are what I'd say differentiates us from other lang learning tools as of now and esp. with our focus on Japanese first we're able to really create a high quality curriculum focused on efficacy

The idea of learning Japanese through practical, everyday situations is awesome. Really looking forward to trying it out. Great job @thealexanderlee
Alexander Lee
@andreas_sohns Thank you would love to hear your feedback as you try it!

Looks good! Iโ€™m keen to try it and understand how the initial process to get my level will be. Itโ€™s being a few months trying different options but Iโ€™m already in a point that I donโ€™t want to invest much time on the very basic lessons. This โ€œfrom day oneโ€ approach seems really interesting.
Alexander Lee
@fe410 100%! Content is currently based for N5 learners and we do a very basic questionnaire to figure out what you already know so that we don't give you repetitive content. We're still fine-tuning this approach but hopefully it should place you outside of basic lessons!
Kyrylo Silin
The concept of an open-world curriculum for language learning is fascinating. Do you have plans to incorporate cultural context alongside the language lessons? Congrats on the launch! P.S. I read your startup name as "lago" at first (with the "L").
Alexander Lee
@kyrylosilin Thank you and yes, each lesson currently talks about cultural context and tidbits! We've had a couple of misreads ๐Ÿ˜…
Salar Davari
From day one!!! That's interesting. I've got to try it.
Alexander Lee
@salar__davari Let me know what you think! Would love to hear your feedback!
Kehui Guo
Learning a new language in the form of conversation and verbal practice is so helpful. Will be even better to dive into more details in terms of different conversation scenarios and adding more cultural elements in:)) Congrats on the launch!
Alexander Lee
@kehui_guo Thank you so much!

I'm travelling to Japan in about 2 months, and my Japanese is horrific. Really having fun trying this out as DuoLingo just didn't gel well with me. It's very gamified! Good luck with the launch!
Alexander Lee
@anthok Thank you so much! As a previously avid Duolingo user myself, I definitely realized we needed something that focuses more on grammar, practical speaking, and cultural nuances

Extremely excited for the launch of this! I was an early alpha tester earlier this year, and there has been SO many improves and progress to the app already! Iago's already changed the way I learn Japanese and has given me an opportunity to actually speak Japanese at home! It has also thoughtfully sprinkled in specific AI use cases for practicing conversations, and is super satisfying when I can use what I just learned to.. order food in a Japanese with Iago for example :) Cannot wait to see where this goes @thealexanderlee !
Gabriella Anjani
Looks very interactive to learn Japanese, congrats on your launch Alexander!

I love how the customizable curriculum feature addresses the need for personalized learning paths. Itโ€™s clear that a lot of thought went into the user experience, especially with the pronunciation practice through speaking. Iโ€™ve been using it for a few weeks, and it has already significantly improved my Japanese speaking skills. Best of luck with the launch!
Alexander Lee
@maymemary Thank you so much for the kind words! Would love your continued feedback as you continue to use the app!
Jemima Lang
Iโ€™ve been eagerly waiting for this product since I heard about it. The ability to create my own curriculum and learn practical grammar and phrases is exactly what I needed to tailor my Japanese learning experience. Thank you for addressing this gap in the market. Thanks again for creating such a great product. Iโ€™m here to support you all the way! ๐ŸŒˆ
Alexander Lee
@jemima_lang 100% Would love to hear your feedback as you try out the app!

Looks awesome! Can't wait to try this out

Congrats on the launch of Iago, Team! ๐ŸŽ‰ The design and functionality of the customizable curriculum feature are impressive. I particularly like how it allows users to pick and choose lessons aligned to their interests, making the learning experience highly personalized and engaging. This sets it apart from other language learning apps in the market. One thing that could enhance the user experience is an interactive vocabulary builder. Have you considered adding a feature that tracks and tests vocabulary retention? I think it would really complement the existing features and add more value for users. Keep up the great work and looking forward to future updates! ๐Ÿ‘
Alexander Lee
@nelle_chambers Thank you for the kind words! And yes! This was an initial planned feature at launch but we actually wanted to do something different and see if we could let learners implicitly learn vocab through phrases. Ideally having enough phrase variations where only 1 or 2 of the words change -> implicitly gets the learner to learn vocab Though we might port over the vocab feature we had from our web app into this as well!

I tried this educational software and really liked the card-based design. It would be even better if the initial tutorial had a game-like dialogue feel. The grammar breakdowns are also quite good, but I found myself lacking the patience to continue. Maybe adding some gamified positive feedback would help.
Alexander Lee
@yangyi_xxxx Thanks for the feedback! Yeah we're actually planning on a bunch of gamification features as we speak so keep in the loop for when these features come out!
