@rrhoover Thanks so much for hunting me and writing a foreword for the book 😄 I've heard so many incredible women tell me they want to work in tech startups but "aren't techie" so don't apply for any roles at all. That needs to stop. Tech, like any other industry, needs all sorts of people to do a range of roles.
This book shares my story of working in tech as an economics grad along with the strategies I've used to land jobs at amazing tech companies like Amazon and Product Hunt.
The tactics in this book have been tried and tested in Hustle Crew workshops and have helped hundreds of people land promotions, better jobs, and better compensation.

@abadesi this is awesome. I was a lawyer in my past life who daydreamed about tech but didn't consider a future in it because I wasn't "techie." 4 years later, I have a startup. Thanks for this, I'm sure it will inspire many more and help to establish the much needed equality in tech.
Today London-based @abadesi (a recent addition to the Product Hunt team) launched a book she's been working on for months, informed by her experience building Hustle Crew, a community supporting women in tech. I know how difficult it is to write a book so major congrats, Aba, and thanks for allowing me to write the foreword. 😊
Love the combo of real life examples contextualized alongside discussion activities. I'm in the process of ordering some extra copies to pass out to mentees, as I think this book has a lot of value for women working together towards set goals in the tech industry.
@juliengov Thanks! Building a network in a new industry is tough but almost every big city now has local meetups which are a great place to start; check Eventbrite, Meetup and Facebook groups to see what's happening and start chatting with group members online before you meet IRL to make it break the ice in advance. Arrive ready to talk about what you're excited about and get others to share what makes them excited, too. Be yourself, be positive and gravitate towards friendly faces.
Just received my copy, if its anything like Hustle Crew events and Abadesi personal mentorship, then I know the book is going to be absolutely awesome... cant wait to get stuck in!
This is such an awesome commitment to the tech community and a necessary piece of literature in a space which is in dire need of fixing. Utilising your experience to ensure non-techy people like ourselves can feel included is so valuable. Please do not stop sharing.
We are big fans of actionable advice that you can take digest and do!!
Awesome book
Pros:
Actionable advice that can ACTUALLY help millennials in the workplace.
Just got mine recently. So far so amazing. Its completely full of actionable tips and tactics, weaved around Abadesi inspiring story of graduating and getting into tech. Cant wait to give out extra copies!
Super excited for you! Had lots of friends looking to get into tech and I'm glad there's a book out there now aimed at people like that.
I'm also super interested in how, as a white man in tech, I can help improve diversity and help underrepresented people be successful! My copy is on it's way!
Congrats @abadesi proud and excited for you and your work! 🤩
@ninacali4 Thanks! They say your culture is defined by your first ten hires so when hiring for startups its important to get it right. The most critical point I could share is to be mindful of inclusion from Day One. It's easy to recruit from within our networks but this could limit the long term success and innovation within the company. Resist the urge to take the path of least resistance and put maximum effort into hiring the best candidates from all types of backgrounds. In my experience it's the people who've experienced setbacks in life and bounced back who perform best in the unpredictable world of startups.
I am honestly so happy I bought this book! As someone very confused with what I wanted to do in life, Dream Big, Hustle Hard has helped give me some sort of focus and direction. From uni advice to how to negotiate your salary, there's something useful in this book for everyone. If you are a student you'll definitely benefit a lot from it. If you are an adult looking to transition into tech, it's a worthwhile read. Either way, this was money well spent!!
Pros:
very useful and relevant to me, insightful, and I love the activities at the end of each chapter
