We decided to build the best possible overview of your travels. See how many countries you have visited. See where in those countries you have been. Get recommendations of where to go next. Keep it to yourself or share it with friends.
Hallo! We are excited to release our new feature “Visited”. After 3 months, 7,813 lines of code in 312 files, countless design iterations, fixes and tinkering, it's finally here!
Our visited places:

Please share yours (and any feedback) right here in the comments :)

@honason sharing what I tried to do was: go to "Save" and tap on "Visited Places". Not sure if the copy for "Rate" was something different it would also be easier to get it in the first look. Anyways, not a major issue, just thinking about the easiness of the experience for new users, everything looks good and works smoothly!
@fe410 hmm I get the confusion. There are visited places, so one would think you can add a place there with "Save". The fact that it happens automatically for rated places is not always obvious. It's something we will try to improve for new users. Thanks for the feedback again, it's really helpful. And I'm happy you like the feature!
Looks really slick! I wanted to build an app like that a decade ago :) You did a better job!
What is your monetization?
Also a recommendation - be able to click on the globe to pick a visited country. I find it strange to only be able to write a place and then it would appear.
@lenikirilov hi Leni, thanks for the praise and warm welcome to Humbo! We’re not earning money on Humbo. It’s a hobby project of three friends for now 🙂
This is why you rate places to create your map: When I see a map of countries my friend has been to, it's interesting, but I always want to know more.
"You've been to France! Where, how did you like it?
How was the food?". I think seeing this (places tab) makes the map more interesting. And in the long run, everyone benefits from the ratings through recommendations for where to go next.
This is a fantastic idea to have an overview of all your trips. I believe this project has the potential to become the Facebook of world travelers, connecting individuals who have visited the same places.
However, one thing that strikes me as extremely odd is that on this link: https://humbo.com/it/taormina?at..., there is a post about Taormina/Isola Bella in Italy. I have visited this location myself, and I can confirm without a doubt that some of the images are simply random and do not match this specific location 😅😂🤣 For example, these images:
I am unsure if there is an issue with your algorithm or if these posts are from other users. In any case, they are completely misplaced.
@g_briel Hi Gabriel, welcome to Humbo and thank you for the feedback!
I looked into the misplaced images for Isola Bella and found the problem. There are two Isola Bellas in Italy, and the images you found are from Isola Bella on Lago Maggiore in Northern Italy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Is...), not from Isola Bella in Taormina. Thanks a lot for pointing this out! I updated the images now.
nice idea, I like the UI. looks super clean. only thing I'd suggest as a must is implement Google Maps timeline importing. That way people would be able to fill in all their visited places instantly as the majority of us have Google Maps on our phones which tracks everywhere we go.
@william_jin Thanks, happy that you enjoyed it! Personally, I really want to visit Buenos Aires and Reykjavik. My total bucket list currently has 206 places though, so I have some work ahead of me! https://humbo.com/anders/lists/b...
Where do you want to go next?
Humbo sounds like an incredible platform! 🌍 I love the idea of creating a map of my travels and finding new places to visit, complete with beautiful photos and ratings from people around the world.
I'm curious, how do you ensure the ratings and reviews are authentic? 🤔 Congrats on your launch!
@daria_rokutova thank you! Good question about the authenticity of ratings. It will be a nice project to build a system for this in the future, but right now we take care of it manually. We see the activity, and if there is an account that rates in a way that is obviously not realistic, we would remove it.
congratulations on the launch of visited by humbo, anders, jensa, and uyen. tallying over 7,000 lines of code is no small feat. regarding the recommendation feature, how does the algorithm determine the next best places to visit based on previous travels? keen to see how it enhances user experience.
@mashy Thanks! Currently, the recommendations are pretty basic, we match manually curated lists of places with places you have visited. For example, if you have been to 5 of the best food cities in the world, you might enjoy more top food cities. We have ideas of how to develop this step by step though to make recommendations even better.
Just gave it an upvote! Mapping out travels sounds like a fun way to relive those adventures and even show off a bit – in a good way
I'm curious tho, how does your platform make those travel recommendations?
Would love to know if there's a way to customize how much I share. Some trips are for the 'Gram, others just for the mems, you know? :D
@aman_wen hi Aman, welcome to Humbo! The lists with inspiration that are part of the map work in very simple way. If you visited several of the places on a list like “10 bike friendly cities”, you might like the rest too 🙂
This travel app sounds amazing! It provides a comprehensive overview of your travels, showing how many countries you've visited and where you've been within them. Plus, you get personalized recommendations for your next adventure. You can keep your travel history private or share it with friends. Can't wait to try it!
