You do realize that shortening links is fully commoditized. Charging for that, even at a one time cost, is aggressive imho. Bitly isn't just a link shortener, it is a marketing and customer intelligence platform. The $995 for Enterprise is for businesses with high traffic looking for viral safe ways of pushing brand, tracking audience and aggregating insights. SMBs won't see the same value. I say this because I helped create and execute bitly Enterprise 7 years ago.
@gbattle great feedback. We are very grateful for that. I invite you to read this: http://www.angry.pt/alc
p.s. Great work helping The New York Foundling!!
@fernand0moreira I will read it. In a more mobile-centric world, links have a very different value today. And thanks man. NY Foundling is legit amazing, changing the lives of the neediest in NYC.
@fernand0moreira to be clear, an average second year CS major can create a URL shortener in an afternoon. It isn't rocket science. However, doing it at scale, to the tune of 10+ billion clicks per month isn't trivial or easy. To be clear, in the days when Twitter was fail whale central, bitly never went down, which is a testament to how forward thinking their engineering team was/is. Don't trust me on it, tear through their engineering blog for yourself. Everything changes when you add orders of magnitude to the problem.
Hey guys, meet ALICE.
The project we created (http://www.angry.ventures) that allows you to create a shrinked customized URL for any link using your company domain.

p.s. Why Alice?
Because we agree with her! Eternal links are confusing. We believe that shrink them, as Alice does to herself, is the best way to promote your brand.

p.s. I saw @Hue. Fock, great idea!
$250 is still a lot of freaking money for a product like this. I rather go to CodeCanyon and buy the premium URL shortner for $21, which also has free updated for life.
@fernand0moreira Thank for sharing. I can see the advantage in particular on the pricing. Just curious, why did you decide to go on a one-time fee model?
