Hi Product Hunters! History of Icons illustrates the history of computer icons and icon design from the 1980’s to the present. On the one hand, we show a clear unbiased chronological development of icons, but on the other hand, we present how — in some sense — history comes full circle. We also wanted to honor the people who invented and refined those tiny, but life-changing design elements. A single-page format was chosen to reflect the nature of a timeline. Enjoy and share your feedback! Cheers Zocha

Thanks @tcodinat! We wanted to show how important icons are in user interfaces and design in general. I hope we managed to do that. :)

Superb idea @rrhoover ! In the past I had the pleasure to create concepts for chats and communication systems. Naturally they had a lot to do with emojis and I was always amazed by how people got creative using them. I definitely put the idea on my to-do list!

Thank you for appreciating our work @aneta_duszynska! It was indeed a big effort to create the history, especially finding all the graphics, icons and interfaces was a challenge. But good people helped us :)

Nice collection and kudos for mentioning GEOS and my favorite, BeOS, which are often missing in "history" views like this. Not very subtle ad slant at the end, but ok 😉

It's unusual. I love it!)
