Hello, Product Hunters! I lead content efforts at Hashnode — a blogging platform for people in tech — and I’m thrilled to introduce Neptune, our new WYSIWYG editor for writing articles. This major revamp brings a raft of new features to our Markdown-based editor to enhance and simplify your blogging experience on Hashnode. We sought to make it easier for everyone building digital things — from programmers to data scientists to UX designers — to share their insights with the world. Wondering why we called it Neptune? Our blog editor’s Markdown and AI underpinnings, which are invisible to authors on our platform, inspired us to name it after something invisible, yet remarkable. We found it: the planet Neptune, which is the farthest one in our Solar System, and can’t be seen by the unaided eye. Here’s why we’re so excited to show you what we’ve been building for the last few months: Neptune lets you see your formatting as you type, so there's no need to toggle between 'write' and 'preview' modes. That’s a lot of time and clicks saved. Oh, and the editor fully supports Markdown, so you can write or paste Markdown content from elsewhere — making it more flexible and easier to work with than before. Inspired by Notion, we added a simple way for you to embed multimedia content blocks with just a keystroke. YouTube videos, GitHub Gists, RunKit notebooks, and tweets are all supported. You can also add custom HTML, math equations in LaTeX, and flexible tables. Neptune also comes with Grammarly built right in, so you can get instant suggestions to fix typos and improve your writing. That should help make it easier to publish error-free posts. We’re also testing an AI Assist feature in Neptune that will generate article outlines, summaries, and code blocks to make publishing easier and faster. Neptune is available to use for free starting today, and we’d love to hear your feedback. We’ll continue fine-tuning the AI functionality for a bit before releasing it in beta in the coming months. Go forth, create a blog for free on Hashnode, and write up a storm with Neptune!

Hey PH 👋 Fazle here, co-founder Hashnode. The Neptune writing engine is at the heart of the new Hashnode editor. We're thrilled to include AI capabilities in the alpha preview today. If you want to try it out, please leave a comment below. 🙌

@fazlerocks congrats to you and the team, this is an EXCELLENT editor. Given I used to build these for a living (Red Hat and then my own company Corilla), I can genuinely say this is world class. Really loving the integration of code display objects, and the future integration of GPT-3/AI assistance. There's an arm's race on for who rolls them in the best, but the patterns will settle down much like the "in-line formatting UI" patterns did after Medium kicked that door down. Looks like Hashnode is ahead of the curve there. So great. PS: I have a feature request around content syndication, but maybe we make this a community bounty to develop, as I know the crew at Lens Protocol would be keen to see this existing. Ping me if interested... (e.g. use case is a devrel team staging content and pushing to multiple outputs, with basic tracking and sequencing to assist things like GTM campaigns... like you're doing right now!).

Sounds great! As a developer, markdown make my writing feel like coding. Already thinking of moving away from Dillinger to Neptune. Congratulations Hashnode!
Rajat Kapoor
@ijsucceed Exactly. We wanted to give users the best of both worlds. You can still type and paste markdown, and people who want to avoid markdown can avoid it with Neptune :)
Very cool looking editor! Did you bake your own from scratch or used a library like Editor.js? We use that library for https://Goos.ly and it works really well to get the same output in edit or read mode.

@denic So good to see you here Marko. Revisions have been in Hashnode for a while now. We need to do a better job of updating our users about the new features :) Our newer updates makes the writing experience even more rewarding and this launch is a way of highlighting that

Nifty -- What are the chances of Neptune having SEO capabilities? I was looking to move from Blogger to a new platform for my portfolio.
Abhimanyu Ghoshal
@runtcpip Hey Morgan 👋 Neptune has SEO chops built in — you can add tags, an SEO title, and a meta description to your posts. It works pretty well, as people who've used our platform have attested! https://twitter.com/cyberethical... https://twitter.com/rbluethl/sta... Proud disclaimer: @rbluethl, whose tweet I've linked above, is *now* part of our team at Hashnode :) You can create a blog on Hashnode for free and map it to your own domain easily. Take it for a spin and see if it works for you!
