There are two parts of this episode that really stuck with me. The first is giving yourself a personal challenge as a way to ingrain yourself into a hobby. The examples given were a) the 10x10 game challenge where you try to play 10 different games 10 times in a year and b) recording 365 games played in a year. This would be a good way to dive into any hobby, not just games! The other conversation that stuck with me was about ways to introduce novice gamers to more complicated games. Basically, it comes down to simplify a game's rules into layers so that you don't dump a dozen or more new concepts onto someone all at once. Anyone writing rulebooks should use this technique as well. Organize turns into 1-3 actions that can then further be dissected when needed.
