Group2FA — Simplify 2FA for Shared Accounts

15
Sharing an account with Two-Factor Authentication can be tricky. The Group2FA® App ensures that trusted members of a shared account have access to login verification codes when they need them. Shares Authenticator App Codes or SMS-based One-time Passcodes.

Do you share logins and passwords for online accounts, such as streaming services, websites, banking, or other online platforms? If you do, you can set up groups in the Group2FA App that allow access for trusted members (such as family, friends, clients, employees, or co-workers) to authentication information, such as SMS-based One-time Passcodes (OTP) or to Authenticator App-based Verification Codes.

Looks like a really handy app. Haven't tried it yet, but the idea of securely sharing logins with trusted folks is super practical. Congrats on the launch!

Hey Kevin! Group2FA sounds super handy, especially for families or small teams. The idea of sharing OTPs securely is something I've been looking for. Just wondering, does it work well with international numbers? Congrats on the launch, excited to see how it evolves!
Kevin Goldstein
@evelynrosesinclair The app supports users in 30+ countries. The Group2FA Numbers are currently US +1 Country Code, but shouldn't have issues with incoming non-US SMS messages. Shared Authenticator App codes have no barrier for users in supported countries. BTW We will be launching 4 non-US Country Codes Group2FA Number options in the next month or so.

Pretty good app for offshore teams. Been annoyed at the fact that we're often asleep when team needs OTP for Azure etc.

Interesting concept! @kgoldstein, how does the Group2FA App handle security for shared access? What measures are in place to keep unauthorized users out?
Kevin Goldstein
@star_boat The app doesn't handle usernames/passwords, only 2FA passcodes, so sharing the actual login info is left up to the team. Group members must be invited by the subscriber, install the app, login with Firebase Authentication and accept the invitation before they can receive OTPs. Subscribers can remove invited users at any time from their groups. Let me know if you have any other questions.

This sounds really useful, especially for team collaborations! How does the Group2FA App ensure the security of shared credentials? Also, can you share some insights on the setup process? @kgoldstein
Kevin Goldstein
@zanereed596 The app doesn't handle usernames/passwords, only 2FA passcodes, sharing the actual login info is left up to the team. With the rise of shared SMS OTP services that don't announce the source, we often don't even see which service is sending the code. In the case of TOTP codes, the shared secret is never sent to the client of the group members, only the passcode is, which expires. We have a couple getting started videos up: General setup & SMS:
Authenticator Codes (TOTP):

This is a game-changer, @kgoldstein! Managing 2FA for shared accounts can be a nightmare, especially when it comes to providing access to verification codes safely. The Group2FA® App seems like a solid solution for those who share logins, whether it's family sharing a streaming service or teams accessing business accounts. The ability to set up groups for trusted members is a smart move, ensuring that the right people have access without compromising security. It’s always a balancing act between convenience and safety, and I believe this app really helps with that! Looking forward to seeing how it performs in real-world scenarios. Great job on this launch! This is a game changer, @kgoldstein! 🎉 Sharing accounts can feel like a high-stakes heist movie, especially with Two-Factor Authentication in the mix. Group2FA® definitely seems like the MVP for keeping things secure while allowing access. I mean, who hasn’t been locked out when the OTP goes to the family member who’s "not available"? The idea of setting up groups for trusted members is brilliant – it's like a secure squad that can access codes without the panic. Can't wait to see how it performs in the wild. Upvoted for sure! Any plans for a beta launch soon?
