Filter bubbles impair our ability to communicate with others and threaten our sense of reality. However, many people don't know they are in one! Blindspotter analyzes your news interactions on Twitter and lets you know if you have a blindspot, left or right.

Unexpected error after first login. 🤔

@simwai sorry about Simon- it happens when a lot of people use it at the same time, we only have so many Twitter tokens. Here are your results, https://ground.news/blindspotter... . Seems like you are cautious with your Twitter news consumption :)

Hey! I’m Harleen. Ex-NASA 🚀 Engineer and Ground News CEO. Our iOS, Android & Web App have helped 250,000+ users fight biased news. I’m excited to launch the Blindspotter -https://ground.news/blindspotter- A Twitter tool that allows you to visualize the filter bubble of any account on Twitter. Press coverage Financial Times https://www.ft.com/content/6f0a2... Mashable https://mashable.com/article/twi... Epoch Times https://www.theepochtimes.com/mo... Daily Wire https://www.dailywire.com/news/s... Tried out already by hundreds of thousands of Twitter users including Paul Graham: https://twitter.com/paulg/status... ➡️ Why we created it: In the era of the echo chamber, having a constructive conversation with someone with differing views is nearly impossible. It’s difficult to consider another perspective when we are all getting fed biased “made for us” news that reinforces our own opinions rather than challenging us to see another. The Blindspotter allows you to lift the veil and see the underlying bias of the news that dominates your feed. It’s a quick way to check if you are getting a balanced view of events, or if you are only seeing one side of the story. ➡️ How it works: ✅ Enter the handle of any public account on Twitter and the Blindspotter will let you know their news diet, top 3 news sources, and influencers. ✅ Tweet out your news diet and share your results with your friends! ➡️ Methodology: ✅ The Blindspotter can only access interaction data that is publicly available and it can not read the data of private accounts. These interactions include tweets, retweets, replies, and likes. Because it only analyzes public data, it does NOT require login permissions. ✅ In order to pull the data, the tool parses through an account's last 3200 tweets and records interactions with news content that have a bias rating. Our methodology for assigning bias ratings can be found here. https://ground.news/blindspotter... We’d love for you to check it out and let us know what you think! I’ll be here answering questions, or you can reach out directly to feedback@ground.news Discover us on the web: ➡️ Chrome Web Store: https://check.ground.news/Chrome... ➡️ Mozilla Add-On Store: https://check.ground.news/FireFo... ➡️ Website: https://check.ground.news/WebApp... ➡️ iOS/Android App: https://check.ground.news/iOSAnd... ➡️ About us: https://about.ground.news/

@harleen Congratulations on the launch! Blindspotter could be addressing this need gap - 'Get me the news I need, not the news I want' posted on my problem validation platform, especially the aspect of getting the news outside our bubble - https://needgap.com/problems/156... . You're welcomed to explain how it solves that problem, So those who need Blindspotter can find it easily.

Hey @harleen congrats on the impressive numbers! Don't forget to add https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wa... to your product's website. Also if at some point you can publish analysis for the tweets with the origination and build dependency graphs (like Palantir does) that would be just amazing.
Michael Falzone
Not sure how I feel about this, how do you objectively rate the bias of sources to determine the left/right rating?
Harleen Kaur
@michael_falzone Hey Michael- we don't pass judgement on the ratings. You can read about our methodology on how we use the ratings from third party independent companies dedicated to the bias rating
Vas
That is a cool idea! How do you define 'news content'? And 'news influencers'? And what defines 100% right / left? So many questions :)
Harleen Kaur
@vasgo Hi Vas- all good questions :) Here is our Methodology details. https://ground.news/blindspotter... . Let me know if you have any follow-up questions!
Vas
@harleen Thanks! :) How do you assign 'bias rating' to news sources - is there a vote? or its someone's personal call? or an algo? And can you give an example of your "benchmark" 100% right / left sources please? - CURIOUS!
Harleen Kaur
@vasgo Hi Vas- we use third-party rating for the Bias. Pls see our methodology here: https://ground.news/media-bias

Congratulations. This is awesome Please please let's talk as i would luv to collaborate with you on finding out if a certain scientific hypothesis is wrong due to blindspots. lawrie@watsonthenews.com

@watsonthenews @lawrie_rajendran thanks Lawrie, would love to collaborate. I will follow-up on the email :)

Not all interactions on Twitter are equal. Does the tool take into consideration that people are more likely to like something than they are to tweet it?
Harleen Kaur
@juliateasdale absolutely, you are right. We give different weightage to each interaction. See the weights in our Methodology, link in my comment. "We place the following weights on interactions with news content: liked (1), tweeted (2), retweeted (1.5), quoted (1.45), replied (1.85)."

I just tried and I must say it's awesome! Well done

@mark_adams6 Thanks Mark!
