GRID is a productivity tool that transforms spreadsheets into interactive, visually dynamic web documents. GRID makes sharing and presenting spreadsheet data and models smart, quick, and exceptionally valuable.
@yehoshua_zlotogorski Thanks Yehoshua! As you can probably imagine, we've seen GRID being used for all sorts of purposes and usecases that we weren't necessarily expecting when we started our beta.
Our most common usecases can be split into three categories: reporting, model presentation and calculators. So you're absolutely right on investor reporting, we've seen that and a wide variety of reports being created by people who up until now were pulling together data from spreadsheets and combining that with narrative in either a text editor or presentation software.
Model presentation is probably the usecase that we were anticipating the most, and where a lot of GRID's features really shine - here, we've seen teams pull together their business models, growth models, scenario analyses and more. We've gotten a lot of great feedback from our users who build models: whereas before they might have done an analysis in Excel that would show f.ex. 3 different scenarios and then they would talk through those in a presentation format, with GRID they're providing their colleagues with a deeper understanding of what goes into the analysis, and allowing them to play around with the assumptions and getting a much better "feel" for the data.
Lastly, we're seeing *a lot* of calculators being built in GRID - again for a variety of reasons and across different types of businesses, e.g. price calculators, various types of "look up" tools and more. Often the end goal for these users is to build something useful for their audience or prospective clients and then embed that onto their own sites. This has been a super exciting usecase for us, because a lot of our calculator builders are people who don't necessarily have a strong technical background but have been using spreadsheets forever - and they are now building really powerful, interactive tools for their businesses without needing to hire external help or writing any code.
Looks great, I love the look of the interactive calculators. Would love to see templates in the future (from people willing to share things like mortgage calculators, insurance calculators etc)
@generouswork Thanks Rich. Spot on. Creating a set of templates that people can duplicate, adapt and make their own is high on the priority list. Looking forward to continued feedback, comments and questions.
Congrats on the launch! Just gave it a try and it looks really powerful and easy to use. What's the primary use-case you are targeting to acquire early users?
@nitish_reddy1 Thanks Nitish, the use-case that seems to be getting the most early traction is an "embedded calculator" case, where people have a spreadsheet already with some model, use GRID to make a UI on top of it and then copy an embed code to put it on their own websites. This is probably also where GRID has the biggest direct ROI as the alternative is really to hire web developers to recreate the logic from the spreadsheet and build the UI, also making the customer dependent on them for any changes.
But there are also quite a lot of "model presentation" cases, where people have a need to communicate a model clearly, but do so in GRID docs hosted on GRID.
In reality, what we've made is a pretty open ended solution that even we are really getting a feel for how can be used to allow spreadsheet modelers to do all sort of interactive web development.
Hey everyone, I’m Hjalmar, the founder and CEO of GRID.
As a life-long data enthusiast, I’ve been fascinated with the nature, ubiquity and importance of spreadsheets. When we founded GRID in 2018 on a mission to empower end-users to do more with data and numbers, we recognized that any such journey would have to start with spreadsheets.
GRID is a productivity tool that enables spreadsheet users to transform their data and models into interactive, visually dynamic web documents. GRID syncs seamlessly with existing spreadsheets and leverages spreadsheet users' existing skills. With GRID, you can add a narrative to your spreadsheets, decide which parts are shown to your audience and how they can interact with your models.
With GRID you shouldn't have to attach a spreadsheet to an email ever again – or switch between different formats like Word, PowerPoint, and PDF when sharing your insights, turning spreadsheets into first-class citizens of the web.
We look forward to hearing what you think, answering your questions and listening to your ideas!
@penny_watson00 Thanks Penny. We're big fans of Tableau, but it differs in several ways:
* The target audience is different. GRID is built on top of spreadsheets, allowing people to use existing spreadsheets and leverage existing spreadsheet skills, rather than learn how to use a new "power user tool".
* While BI tools such as Tableau are mainly about providing views on aggregated records of data, GRID runs spreadsheet models with any formulas and calculations, something BI tools don't emphasize, and models will need to be rebuilt natively there, to the extent they can in the first place.
* GRID emphasizes a mix of narrative AND presentation of data, rather than focusing on the more data heavy dashboard-style that BI tools tend to go for.
So in short: There's an overlap for sure, but the target audience, and the core use-cases are different.
I'm very excited to see GRID launch. I've been a beta user for a while, and I can attest it's a very powerful tool for creating dynamic front-ends for your spreadsheets. I think there must be millions of huge, gnarly Excel sheets used to run businesses, and now finally they can be made accessible as web apps to non-expert users.
Oh my... Exactly what I needed! For a month I've been collecting some data and just when I started thinking about the ways to visualize it, here you are! I have subscribed and started using it immediately and I can say that interface is intuitive and easy to use. I like the number of different charts, all the Interaction and text elements, plus the View mode is super handy! Great job, ?makers 👏👏👏
@duskostamenic Dusko, thank you so much for the kind words! We're thrilled to hear about your first impressions. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us again in the future if you have any questions or comments!
It's always been a love/hate relationship for me with spreadsheets - this is a total game changer for people who love data but lack the technical foundation to develop beautiful frontends. Congrats on the launch!
Love this product. As a beta user, I had built a calculator that estimates how much employers spend on hiring.
With GRID I could share a) key assumptions for user inputs in my model and b) show charts and graphs for results.
It would have taken days (or weeks) to build something with similar functionality in a website, (where I would have started with a spreadsheet anyway).
@kristjanfreyr Thanks for your continued support Kristjan, and now your requested embedding feature is fully supported and easily accessible from within the product. On a pro subscription you can even customize the look and feel of the embed :)
I tried this in beta and it's a great way to do a pitch deck - you can put your assumptions right into the financial model and let investors play with what they think reasonable assumptions are to see the potential outcomes. (It's a much better way to handle models since early stage investors are looking for your assumptions, not blindly believing your outputs!).
Look forward to this type of "interactable data" make its way into more documents.
Congrats on the launch! GRID has become a core part of my workflow on everything from financial planning to fund modeling. Excited to see the product soar to new heights!
Great tool to share and visualize the data you are working on. I've used Grid to create cost calculators for SAAS tools and share growth estimations with investors.
I used it for sharing and tweaking the business model with the team. Instantly useful. Congratulations on the launch! You set a high standard for us all.
