If you are a developer or designer: Not good idea to charge per hour. Better per project. Unless totally necessary and that requires your presence for X amount of times. Comparing price per hour is absurd at least for me as developer. I have seen how some developers charge $3 hour in some countries we all know. Then they estimate for a project 100h = $300. I estimate 1hour $150 since I already have done a really similar project before. So at the end I am cheaper... Please product hunters: Do not pay people exclusively for the amount of time, but better for what they can do or are good at.

@deambulando Hi Chema, great insight. It's true that solely being paid based on amount of hours is not the smartest option. On the other hand at some point one uses hours/days to approximate the time required to fulfill a project. And this was meant to be just a way to calculate a good hourly rate based on your expenses and taxes. I realized the concept is interesting so I am re-making the tool in a friendlier way, any feedback is welcome!

Trying to change the Desired monthly salary is breaking for me :/
tnrp
@my_boon You are absolutely right, thanks! I just changed a couple of things and I didn't realize. Give it 2min! :)

Appreciate the idea, but this is pretty confusing. A step by step process would have been a much better experience.

@thejfkshow You are right. This was just a small experiment not even meant to reach PH at first. I'm now thinking how to re-make it for better UX and compatibility. Step-by-step-ish format is indeed an option. Thanks for the feedback :)

Pretty cool and simple. Change the numbers to your situation and it will churn out potential rates
Angie
This is a great tool πŸ˜€. Will come in handy when calculating different scenarios or job offers.

This is great but a little clumsy to use at the moment on Chrome. A little more polish and this will be perfect. Integrations with great invoicing services like Roninapp.com would be even better. @tnrp_
tnrp
@davidsfeng Absolutely! It was intended as a small experiment, really appreciate the feedback!
tnrp
@davidsfeng How would you like to see invoicing apps like Ronin integrated? For example like accessing your history and estimating your future taxes? What other ways? :)

I think this is the kind of simple tool that can be very useful. Pricing is one of the hardest tasks for freelancers. Would be cool to have better Safari browser implementation. Maybe something that's more like a wizard can be helpful. Also it could take into account not only existing expenses but also how things might change in the future so we can already account for that.

Why is this so high in the feed?
tnrp
@j_r_wi11iams Hey Jesse, this is certainly not a final release, it was intended to be a small tool/experiment; which to my surprise caught some interest. I am in the process of re-thinking/re-making it, do you have any ideas/feedback that would make it worthy of being high in the feed? :)
Fabio Frignani
Hi! It could be a pretty useful tool! I can't help to see your improvements. ;) I'd like to customize the tax rate % because it depends on your tax regime. A single Country can have multiple tax regimes.
tnrp
@frigno Ciao Fabio, that's a fantastic point, and part of the plan; together with social security rates, etc. For now it's only offering the "worst case" ( which is a single person doing the taxes). I'm trying to figure out how to customize it in a way that is doesn't end up being yet another unappealing and overcomplicated tax calculator.
Kix Panganiban
Neat little app! Really helpful! However... no love for Philippines?
tnrp
@kixpanganiban Haha, total love for Philippines, will be added ASAP!
tnrp
Improvements on the way! All feedback / interesting features are welcome :)
tnrp
Just to let you know that this little tool was re-made and extended a few weeks ago.You can find it at https://www.workly.info , I hope this is useful to anyone :)

Appears a bit squashed on Safari. Freelance vs Salaried?
tnrp
@tomflemming Thanks!
Lasse R
No safari support at all - at least not iOS.
tnrp
@lasserafn Thanks for the feedback! I will definetely take that into account :)
