The Pitch is a podcast that takes you behind closed doors to the critical moment when aspiring entrepreneurs put it all on the line. Each episode delivers on the high-stakes promise of a live pitch without shying away from the nitty gritty details of what happens after everyone shakes hands and walks out of the room.

This is a great show! Podcast production, editing is of such top quality that you are 'teleported' to the studio as you listen ;)
Jake Cohn
So awesome. Congrats!!

Can honestly say that @runvc intro to @joshmuccio changed my life. Happy to chat about Shiftโ€™s experience with any founders considering going on the show ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ™
Jake Chapman
@joshmuccio @mslagh So happy to be a small part of what you are doing Mike. You're making the world a better place for all of us!
Josh Muccio
Thank you @abadesi ๐Ÿ™Œ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿพ The Pitch started its journey by launching on Product Hunt in July of 2015. And I credit this community for being that initial germ of audience that helped us learn as we tried desperately to figure out this whole podcast thing. So thank you ๐Ÿ™ And I just want to say that it is SO DAMN COOL that 3 years later we get to come back here where it all started! So what's new?? The big change is that we now have live investments happening on the show. Which is crazy! It took us forever to find investors who would actually make commitments on the spot. But we did, and since then we've had over $2 million invested in startups on our show. Thanks to people like @sheel_mohnot, @NadelPhil, @ManusJillian, @HowieDelicious, @runvc, @DanielGulati, @nicoleverkindt, @mhyattspeaker, and @chudson for making it a reality. Why do this?? Because people need a place where they can go to learn about how VC deals actually go down. A place where startup veterans and kids in entrepreneurship class alike can come to learn from some of the smartest minds in the business. And here's the thesis behind it all: Everyone can talk till theyโ€™re blue in the face about the latest trends and what they're looking for in a startup, but something special happens when you put an actual startup founder in front of an investor. All of a sudden all the theoretical stuff goes out the window, and you get to see how decisions actually get made. Itโ€™s riveting stuff really. Anyway, perhaps I'm getting too passionate in the opener :) Oh, and I forgot ... the other big news is that in 2017 Alex Blumberg called to say that Gimlet Media wanted to pick up The Pitch! Which was a dream come true. Now we're a team of five working full time on the show, and we're on pace to crank out 36 episodes this year! ๐Ÿš€ PS: I'd love to hear any feedback you have for the show. And if you have questions, please ask! I'll be around all day ๐Ÿ˜ป

@joshmuccio It has been incredibly awesome to watch the evolution of this show over the past 3 years. Kudos to you for putting together such a high-quality productโ€”on so many levels. And it's a huge thrill to see you getting recognized by Gimlet and so many others for the hard work you've put in. Congratulations!
Josh Muccio
@think_andreah Thank you Andrea for being so awesome :) You've been an encouragement since the very beginning ๐Ÿ‘
Josh Muccio
@sophiaedm yes! The team is truly incredible. I work with THE BEST PEOPLE EVER! Thank you @mollersaurus @kmaddox @themusemaker @muccio_lisa @blytheterrell for working so tirelessly on the show. And for always pushing the envelope to make each episode the best it can possibly be
Greig Cranfield
@abadesi @joshmuccio The only podcast that I get genuinely excited about when a new episode drops. Top work Josh, it gets better and better.
Daniel Gulati
Congrats @joshmuccio on the amazing franchise you are building. To think The Pitch is at $2M+ in capital commits AND is still at Day 1 is truly awesome. As an early stage VC, my best investments have been in founders who come from modest means, who have never been entrepreneurs before (nor have a PhD from MIT), and who address complex problems with unique solutions. For startups that apply to be on the Pitch, expect Josh and his team to pay particular attention to you and your idea, to ignore the optics (and look beyond the Silicon Valley rut), and to give the best talent an opportunity to achieve their full potential. THAT'S what I love about being a judge on the show. Congrats again to Josh and The Pitch team for creating a valuable platform for the brightest entrepreneurs out there.
Josh Muccio
@danielgulati Thanks Daniel!! We love having you on the show. You say smart things ;)

By far my favourite podcast

I picked up The Pitch pre-gimlet and have enjoyed it from day one. It only keeps improving. This is one of my top goto podcasts when stuck in traffic. Entertaining and I tend to learn something in each episode on how either investors or entrepreneurs think and react.

Pros:

Real pitches to real investors with behind the scenes (anxiety!) and follow ups. Short form. Very polished.

Cons:

Investors can sometimes get on a tangent and miss the mark - but hey - that's the real pitch!

Fred Rivett
Iโ€™ve loved seeing Josh (and team) grow The Pitch from the days of The Daily Hunt to what The Pitch has become today. On top of the super inspiring journey, I love how The Pitch is bringing transparency into fundraising, which has knock on effects to lowering the bar and helping make VC money more accessible for all. Great job folks, and congrats on 3 years!
Josh Muccio
@fredrivett OMG the Daily Hunt. That feels like ages ago! As hard (and unprofitable) as that show was to make, we never would have started The Pitch if it weren't for that once daily show about the top product on PH ๐Ÿ˜ Thanks for all the kind words Fred! You nailed the mission for why we do what we do.
Fred Rivett
@joshmuccio haha yeah your hustle back then was crazy, worked your way up from scratch. Super impressive. And your mission is ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ‘

This podcast follows in line with many of the other great shows from Gimlet Media. Josh does a great job hosting and the investors each bring their own take with their investment theses so you get multiple points of view. It's one of the podcasts I look forward to each week.

Pros:

Each week the show has a different entrepreneur from a different industry. It's entertaining, drama filled and you learn about a new field.

Cons:

New episodes aren't released daily ;-)

I'm a big fan of The Pitch and I'm proud to have been in the number of the original listeners who was an "insider" before they were acquired by Gimlet. I appreciate the platform that they have created for founders (especially women and POC) but also the intentional nature in which they try to close the loop on "what happens after". I think that's normally what's missing on shows like Shark Tank. Big #shoutout to Josh, Lisa, and their entire team. The only thing I wish happened more often was that the episodes were a little longer. Or maybe even do a quarterly "since you last heard them" update episode. :D
Josh Muccio
@onebandwagonfan thanks Harold :) I can't guarantee the episodes will get longer but maybe we should bring back The Pitch Insider!? What's a reasonable price for that anyway? I think it was $9 before... but that seems a bit steep. I'm thinking $3 bucks a month would be more reasonable yeah?
Jake Chapman
Hey Josh, what has been your favorite pitch on the show so far?
Josh Muccio
@runvc the episodes are like children. How could I ever pick a favorite? But let's be real, I do have a favorite... I was pretty vocal about my support for @stefanloble in episode #39 FWIW the favorite episode of the people is actually episode #16, Qleek. That surprised me. But it is a damn good episode if I do say so myself ๐Ÿ˜Ž
Matteo Terrevazzi
@runvc @stefanloble @joshmuccio thatโ€™s because Qleek has received double coverage due to a humble guy living far away from the East Coast ;)
Josh Muccio
@runvc @stefanloble @tterre that is a true statement
Stefan Loble
Wow, thanks @joshmuccio. Being on the show was such a tremendous moment for me that a friend suggested we do something analog to commemorate it. Like press a vinyl record. Or, maybe a Qleek! (Your impact on their business - and many others - is something to be proud of.) It's clear to me that the Gimlet team makes the show. Each episode is a gem of storytelling. Your fingerprints are all over it. Thanks for having me on. Wednesdays can't come too soon.
Topias Soininen
The Pitch is awesome. I did my Pitch this Summer and really enjoyed the experience. @joshmuccio and his team are great, and the investors in the panel are also very savvy. Looking forward to my episode coming out in September (about Playven.com - OpenTable for sports)
Cody Candee
I went on The Pitch this season and absolutely loved it. The investors are top notch and the episodes are very engaging (hopefully ours will be as well - it's coming out soon). Highly recommend for entrepreneurs and for listeners. Super grateful to Josh & team for putting together such an awesome thing.
Josh Muccio
@cody_candee thanks Cody ๐Ÿฌ!! your episode will drop a week from today actually ๐Ÿš€
Susan Sierota
WTG @joshmuccio Your passion and desire to support founders is obvious in every single episode. You have truly created something special that has such a positive impact to the startup ecosystem. I always look forward to my Wednesday mornings to hear what is next.
Josh Muccio
@susan_sierota Wow! Thanks Susan. Wednesday's are the best days ๐Ÿ˜Ž

@joshmuccio So proud of you for your podcast. You and the team out there rock! It was such an honor being able to pitch to @ManusJillian, @nicoleverkindt, @mhyattspeaker, and @chudson for inRecovery.org. Really awesome experience and sooooo fun!! I'd love to listen to an "uncut" series of the show. There's sooo much more to every pitch, from my own experience, that doesn't make it to the final edit. I think it could be really cool and the hardcore tech nerds, like myself, and fans would totally love it. You guys are amazing and so very proud of you and all you've achieved and continue to achieve. Keep it up!!
Josh Muccio
@manusjillian @nicoleverkindt @mhyattspeaker @chudson @dsarabia hey David! Thank you so much for your support ๐Ÿ™ You're not the only one to request an uncut version of the show. In fact, we used to have The Pitch Insider which allowed people to pay 5 or 10 bucks a month for the uncut versions. But it didn't survive the move to Gimlet Media ๐Ÿ˜ผ

Having been one of the entrepreneurs to be featured on their podcast "Can Tech Solve Americaโ€™s Drug Crisis? (#37, inRecovery)", I can tell you the incredible experience this was.

I was introduced to Josh Muccio through my accelerator, Startup Health. From the very first conversation, Josh was so energetic and positive and fun. His passion for his podcast (which he started before Gimlet acquired him) was really inspiring. As an entrepreneur himself he really understands what his featured startups are going through. So he does an excellent job at curating great entrepreneurs to come and pitch on their startup.

I flew up to SF for the recording in February 2018, met them at a super cool studio and it was on. The investors started rolling in one by one and you start getting a little nervous as it starts hitting you that it's game time.

The recording process was actually extremely fun. All the investors are highly respected in the tech space - you don't get this type of face-to-face with this caliber of investors every day.

All super friendly, having their cup of coffee and ready and excited to talk to you. Even Michael Hyatt, who is characterized as the hard ass on the show, is actually SUPER nice and an amazing human being.

We recorded for about an hour, the dialogue was much like what you'd have in an actual conference room with a VC firm. This is what's so unique about The Pitch, it's real. Very real. This is the closest you'll get to being a co-founder and sitting behind closed doors at a VC's office. Such a unique and rare experience - so if you're an entrepreneur, or thinking about starting a business, or just love startup stories, definitely recommend The Pitch.

I'm very honored that Josh had me on the show and very thankful for the experience. You guys have a life long listener. I learn something new every time I listen. Keep it up!

Pros:

The closest you'll get to being a co-founder :) The format very much how it's like behind closed doors in a real life pitch with VCs.

Cons:

Unfortunately, only an edited version released. I'd love to listen to the "uncut" series, as there's so much more to every pitch.

Phil Nadel
Josh--your vision and passion for the show have made it a reality. On behalf of The Pitch Nation, thank you! It has been a great experience for me to be one of the investor panelists on the show. I have met so many fantastic founders and have invested in several including Boundless, Shift and Lunar Wireless. I love being involved with The Pitch because I think we give listeners a true sense of what the fundraising process is like and how challenging it is to start and build a company. Each episode celebrates and honors the innovative entrepreneurs who are disrupting their lives to pursue their dreams. And I am honored to be able to advise and invest in them. Thank you, Josh, for pursuing your dream to give founders a platform to showcase the pursuit of theirs.
Josh Muccio
@philnadel Phil you rock!!! Thanks for being a part of this little podcast thingy since the very beginning :) I remember walking/pacing on the streets of San Francisco on our first phone call when I was trying to convince you to be a part of our first live taping. I think you were the 2nd person to say yes... @runvc was the 1st
