Which country you have been has the best conditions for working or digital nomading?

Many people are talking about Thailand and Estonia. What are your experiences? Where should the founder register his company? (Asking for a friend.)

Great topic you’ve brought up, Nika. Congratulations! So, to be honest, it depends on what you’re looking for. If you want to work and be completely surrounded by interesting people and digital nomads, then it’s best to be in those digital hubs. In that sense, I’d definitely say Europe, especially Portugal, Spain, etc. Lisbon and Barcelona are amazing places. Of course, there are smaller local hubs too, like the one we know in Bulgaria—Bansko. However, I wouldn’t recommend Estonia, simply because it’s an extremely cold country, and the activities you can do there are quite limited. Not a lot of digitals nomads as well. In that respect, southern countries offer far more opportunities for entertainment. Now, in Thailand and Indonesia, there’s been a huge concentration of digital nomads, so those are also great options for working. But if it’s about where to register a company, great options in Europe are Cyprus, Bulgaria, and Malta. The best option, from what friends of mine who run Amazon businesses worth tens of millions have told me, is definitely Cyprus. So, Cyprus is my favorite. The tax advantages are amazing.

@byalexai Alex, you are the only one mentioned about Bansko and I luckily happened to be there. It’s def a hidden gem, but in terms of EU, I feel like Austria is a great option. Ofc Portugal has been the capital of nomad… Asia wise, Indonesia and Thailand def offer the economical advantages, but if I can choose, I’d go with Japan hehe best food, clean, safe everywhere you go.(yon don’t need to be worried about get robbed or scammed easily

@kellyann3644 Hey Kelly, nice to meet you! Yes, Bansko is definitely the place I recommend. I spend a big part of the year in Bulgaria, and I’ve been to the coworking and coliving spaces in Bansko. I’ve even worked with people I met online through Twitter there and spent quite a bit of time. It’s an amazing place! Austria, honestly, is a fantastic country. I love visiting—it has great conditions and beautiful spots, but I haven’t heard of digital nomads going there. Of course, I’ve seen AI retreat centers, but as for digital nomads, it doesn’t seem to be a very popular spot, at least based on my observations. If you’re ever coming to Bansko/Bulgaria again, drop me a message. I’d love to meet up!

@byalexai But what about Estonian taxes? What about to locate your company here to have benefits? + When you want to register company in Bulgaria, do you need to be present there over 180 days in a year?
Nika
@byalexai @kellyann3644 The thing/idea is to place the company somewhere but usually, it means you need to pay their social care and health care instalments tho I want to be physically elsewhere but do not want to pay social and health care fees duplicity for 2 or 3 countries :D

@busmark_w_nika Nika, that’s an excellent point, but there is an EU regulation that addresses this issue. Generally, you are required to pay social contributions in the country where you primarily work. However, you can submit a declaration stating that you work and pay social contributions in the country where you are actively conducting your business. In some countries, social contributions are quite affordable. For example, in Bulgaria, they are exactly 120 euros per month, and there’s even an option to pay as little as 10 euros per month. So, I believe this isn’t a major expense in the context of remote work, as long as it’s coordinated with the competent accountants/lawyers in the respective countries.
