What’s one everyday object you wish someone would reinvent?

Not the sexy stuff like phones or VR headsets — I’m talking about the boring but essential things we use daily:

🔌 Outlets

🚿 Shower handles

🗓️ Light switches

🛋️ Furniture legs

🖇️ Power strips

🪟 Window locks

Most of these haven’t changed significantly in decades. But when someone does rethink them, the impact is huge because they live in every room of our lives.

So I’m curious:

What’s one “invisible” object in your home or office that you think is overdue for innovation?

What bugs you about it? How would you redesign it?

Let’s build a list of forgotten everyday things begging for a glow-up :)

Launching soon!

Fun question, Leon! Here is my less fun answer: One that is top of mind currently are things like coffee tables and bed frames whose legs jut out from the frame too sharply. Terrible for stubbing knees shins and toes, and for WHAT?

People are already redesigning this but still see sharp coffee tables with sharp, angular legs etc.

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

@cholden_lewis Haha, very fun answer! Couldn't agree more, my shins and toes certainly do too.

Love the question! I would like that someone reinvented the matress adding a technological component... Imagine a matress that could adapt its shape and temperature depending on your body conditions and sleep

@adriana97 Great call-out! I believe I saw a few similar offerings at CES 2025!

Kitchen cabinet placement. Nearly every kitchen is designed around the assumption that you’re tall, standing, and fully mobile. High cabinets = inaccessible. Deep corner cabinets = unusable. And reaching for plates shouldn’t feel like CrossFit. Why isn’t adjustable-height cabinetry more common in new builds?☹️
