What makes a great product leader?

I’ve been fascinated by leadership since I was a kid.

What makes someone a good leader? What makes someone worth following?

Over time, my understanding has evolved. It’s not just about being smart or skilled... it's so much more than that.

If I had to define it today, I’d say great product leaders are:

* Clear in direction, decisive

* Kind and emotionally aware

* Multifaceted

* Empathetic enough to listen, but confident enough to lead ( this is key)

That’s the kind of leader I’d want to work with, and become, one day. :')

I’m curious, what’s the best example of leadership you’ve experienced?

And what characteristics would you define as great leadership?

There was a moment I’ll never forget.

I once told my team lead that I was planning to leave the company.

I was nervous about bringing it up ,unsure how to say it, afraid of disappointing him.

But his response completely caught me off guard.

He simply said, “You must’ve gone through a lot emotionally.”

That one sentence really stayed with me.

Even though he must’ve felt surprised or even disappointed to see a team member leave,

he chose to respond with empathy from the perspective of someone who had once been in my shoes.

That moment made me realize:

He still carried the mindset of what it’s like to be a team member.

And to me, that’s what a true leader looks like.
