Solo founder here - how do you make time for marketing when building is all you want to do?

Hey everyone 👋

I’m working solo on my first real product launch and figured I’d post here to see how other makers approach this.

I’m a builder through and through. I can spend hours designing, coding, tweaking tiny things no one will ever notice - and genuinely enjoy it.

But when it comes to marketing, I get totally overwhelmed. I never really know where to start, and when I try, I usually end up thinking, “Maybe I’ll just ship one more feature instead.” And then I do 😅

So I wanted to ask:

  • How do you make space for marketing when your instinct is to just keep building?

  • What helped you get your first users?

  • And how do you approach launch prep when you’re still deep in product mode?

Would love to hear how others navigate this - especially if you’re doing it solo too.

Appreciate any advice or stories 🙏

Same thing here! I still haven't found the formula to make some space for marketing, but I'd advise to perhaps market each major version online. I got my first app users by promoting it in online forums, just like this one.

One thing I've done that worked for me is to dedicate the first days of each month exclusively to marketing. Hope that helps!

@manuelzarroca thanks!

Dedicating the start of each month just to marketing seems like a good start. It feels more manageable than trying to juggle both at once. I might actually try that next month and see how it goes.

Also love the reminder about forums - this is one of the first times I’ve actually posted something. Feels good to finally put it out there.

Curious - aside from Product Hunt, were there any other forums or communities where you saw traction?

Good luck with your launch, cheering you on!

@brandonbuilds Congrats! In my case it actually took some courage before I could start sharing the journey with my product. Aside from ProductHunt, I've tried developer focused forums which can be found almost anywhere.

Thanks a lot, cheering you on your launch too :)
