Should the European Union control chat communication? [Chat Control Law]
Very quick summary:
The EU’s proposed Chat Control Law would scan all private communications for child abuse material, but critics warn it undermines privacy, weakens encryption, risks mass surveillance, and could expand to policing political dissent.
I don’t want to sound conspiratorial or anything like that, but it somewhat reminds me of the surveillance practices before 1989 in Europe, leading up to the Velvet Revolution, when people were reporting on each other to protect political interests. (Especially in the Eastern Bloc and some parts of Central Europe, this memory is still very vivid.)
What's your opinion on controlling communication in such a way?

Sounds like overprotective parents getting toxic.
@admiralrohan Even my parents weren't like that :D
@busmark_w_nika They are becoming more like Russia while criticizing them. Better to teach the populace on how to stay safe from propaganda. And give responsibility of kids to their parents.
Honestly, completely incompatible with reality. This seems like a naked grab for control and I can't even fathom how this will actually be enforced.
I feel like this is just going to lead to actual ways to hide things which are going to be even more difficult to find.
@csurita Maybe we will create different channels of communication. You know, restrictions have always led to obeying a law. 🤷♀️
