Require feedback: Would you gift/buy a "private Live (online/in-person) music concert"?
Hi Community,
I am Pallav, & we are trying to gather feedback on our hypothesis - Would people pay for gifting a "private Live (online/in-person) music concert?"
The idea is to offer a personalized & yet economical gifting alternative by creating a marketplace of musicians & potential customers. The offerings may be of the following category:-
- Entry (<10 $): 60 - 120 seconds personalized pre-recorded performance with dedication & wishes
- Medium (~30$): 10 minutes of personalized virtual live performance with dedication & special requests
- Premium (~60$): 30-45 minutes of personalized in-person performance at customer's location

I like the idea! Maybe it needs to be iterated slightly? A similar product that comes to mind is Cameo, the online video service where you can get a personalized message from a celebrity. Cameo is great because it is super specific, it is online birthday wish service, and it is valued at $300 million. Your service seems to be very ambiguous and makes it hard to tell what a user is supposed to use it for. A common mistake of startups is to make something broad and not focus on a specific niche. Once you are successful and gaining traction you can become more broad and grow into other areas. I would suggest drilling down if your service is online or in person and just choose one. Then give some suggestions for what the service can be used for, is it for romantic serenades? (From the videos you posted it seems like it is). With some small tweaks it could be a really great service, like Cameo for serenades maybe?! I hope that helps but take my advice with a grain of salt, I think you guys are on to something!
@jack_davis7 Thanks a lot. It makes a lot of sense. In fact, we received a similar advice a week & therefore made a simple landing page, with 3 curated musicians offering online live concerts for now. I am not sure how to acquire initial users. I definitely know about cameo and following it diligently. SPECIALZ (our offering) & cameo are targeting a similar need i.e. "how to offer a personalized gift using artists/creators?" Do you have any recommendations on how to acquire initial users?
@surprise_me I think it will be easier to find initial users if you really understand the target audience you are going after. I would then reverse engineer it by searching for comments on the internet related to that target audience. Google stuff like "best bday gifts" on Reddit or Youtube and scroll till you find comments saying, "what should I get my significant other?" Then I would dm them and say "hey we offer a really unique service perfect for anniversaries and birthdays." You could also make a post in a music subreddit saying you made a service that needs more musicians and will help them make money. This will probably attract a lot of musicians as they are always looking for easy ways to convert their skill into money. Many of these musicians will likely become customers of the service as well and will likely tell their friends if they enjoy it. Airbnb got a similar start by focusing on its core hosts from the start as opposed to its customers.
Be careful asking hypothetical questions!
Everyone wants to be nice and will say what you want to hear.
You can quickly validate this idea with a landing page (built in a weekend using a Nocode tool like Carrd, Webflow, etc).
Offer some sort of pre-sales and see how much interest you get.
You don't need to offer all services from day 1. Just pick the easiest for you to serve.
While demand is low you can manually arrange the calls with the musicians, as you grow you will automate the business piece by piece.
@dkaravias Thanks a lot. You are absolutely right. As mentioned above, we have build a simple landing page, with 3 curated musicians offering online live concerts for now. I am not sure how to acquire initial users :) I am fulfilling the orders manually i.e. organizing the zoom meeting & moderating it, for now.
