Is it possible for a solo individual to build a successful open-source product for the masses?

Several platforms/products that exist today seem to be from large teams that took months (or maybe years) to build it.

Wanted to understand what would it take for just 1 individual to build something in the open source segment and ship it successfully across geographies?

Assumptions:

  1. Maker knows Linux and Python

  2. Maker is yet to build a product

  3. Maker doesn't wish to monetize at all

  4. Maker has explored AI a bit too much and is now in an analysis-paralysis mode

That is, a lone creator should not focus on monetization, but only on the product. It is difficult to create a product alone, and this is not only in technical terms. This is SEO, writing a product, writing a website for the product. I think that it can take a lot of time for one person if he really sits and does quality work. What do you think?

Thanks,@ixord

I agree with you. For one person to handle it all solo can be quite burdensome. Was wondering if AI can help in multi-tasking through all those things? 🫣

Ideas keep coming in mind very freely, but execution takes energy. Maybe not a one person's job post the ideation stage, as you rightly mentioned. I appreciate your response, Igor!

@ashok_nayak I think AI can speed up work but it does not guarantee quality work. But it depends on what work you give AI
