How do you keep up with social media presence and building your personal brand?

by

All of you who are building a personal brand, I guess, keeping up with the onslaught of notifications is not the easiest thing to do. I personally open some notifications after a month (like today on Bluesky, Substack and Twitter), not to mention that I reply to some messages after months. 😅 It helps me keep my sanity. But it took me almost 4 hours to handle these today. 🙈

On the other hand, I manage ProductHunt and LinkedIn quite regularly.

How are you doing with this? Sometimes I feel guilty that I respond late when I want to grow. On the flip side, I try not to let it get in my head, and I want to know what's going on with my community (not AI responses). :)

  • How many social media platforms are you on, and which ones are crucial for you?

  • How much time do you dedicate to each?

  • Do you have a VA, or do you manage everything yourself?

Speaking about me: ProductHunt, LinkedIn, Twitter are my main channels atm – but I do not treat them equally :D

The best earning are Substack, LinkedIn and Twitter.

Reality is that I would like to grow my YouTube but I dedicate small time to it. (It is the most time-demanding platform.)

I cannot exactly say how much time I am on each, but PH is certainly around 45 minutes or 1 hour/day.

I'm currently on X and LinkedIn the most, but I have plans to expand into Medium, Substack, and Instagram. I've found that it's incredibly time-consuming to focus on more than 1-2 platforms, especially as you're building out your own product and company.

I try to post at least 1x a week on X and LinkedIn (I know, not a lot but other things are holding priority right now), but I do fall short of that at times. I think those are the easiest platforms, just due to them being more text-heavy, rather than video-heavy.

No, I don't have a VA... yet. Once we're able to handle paying for a VA, best believe I will hire me one ASAP lol.

@jordansvision 100% sticking to 1–2 platforms early on is smart. X and LinkedIn cross over really well, especially when you keep things text-first.

Spreading yourself too thin rarely pays off, unless you’ve found clear leverage.

I’m lucky to have a small team now, so most of my time’s spent on content and 1:1 convos with users, learning from them directly. That’s been huge for product R&D and keeping our ops grounded in what actually matters.

@jordansvision  @adam_martelletti This is true. Start with one platform, gather as many people as possible and then transfer them to other social media. It will ball up.

@jordansvision I reckon you are a dev, right? Maybe some sneak peaks, learnings, recaps or small milestones could start more interest in your audience. Yesterday read Marc Lou's newsletter. There was a good thought:

"4. Post your wins

Got 300 visitors from Reddit? Made $19 this week?

That’s content. That’s how you grow."

Hello @busmark_w_nika thank you for this thread. I believe it’s a common daily issue for most people. Can you please describe your experience on PH. How do you spend that hour ? What are your main interests on the platform ?

@raniazyane Hey Rania :) Thank you for asking.

It usually looks like this:

– See what's new in Forums (and contribute to spark discussion)

– Watch and try new products – give feedback (those useful or interesting to me)

– Support some of my friends with upvotes and comments

– Going through my notifications (answering)

– Adding my PH post

– Keep talking under my post

Launching soon!

Would love to have a unified inbox like https://texts.com/

My bigger bottleneck is to have constantly high-quality content. How do you come up with good content regularly?

@dan_meier1 Is this one your product? :)

To be honest, most of my content comes to my mind when I have breakfast – sometimes it is a spontaneous thing. 😅 But it helps me a lot to be present with tech news and Twitter :) Many of my discussions are reactive.

Launching soon!

@busmark_w_nika same for me right now, but it doesn't really scale and is reliable :) sometimes I'm just not creative and don't do a post :)

@dan_meier1 It is okay to take time off, but remember, when they do not see you, they stop remembering you. 🙈

@kabir_aliyu The first things first – share the link :)

Kabir Aliyu

@busmark_w_nika i'm trying to paste the link but it says "invalid content detected". can you try viewing on my profile? tbh idk how to use this appl, still learning

Kabir Aliyu

@busmark_w_nika i sent to you via linkedin.

I only recently started working on my personal brand. I finally found some free time and decided to focus on it, although it doesn’t come easily to me. I’m not used to sharing things on social media — my Instagram, Facebook, and other accounts have been basically dead.

But I’ve started building up my LinkedIn, I check Product Hunt regularly, and I run a community for beginner designers on Telegram.

However, I do see the problem of finding good authors on LinkedIn — I ended up unfollowing everyone I initially subscribed to because they were just posting AI-generated texts. I’ve started writing expert articles myself here and on LinkedIn (cross-posting). Not very often, since this type of content takes a lot of time.

I also used to write these kinds of articles only in Russian on another platform. Maybe I should translate them into English and share them here as well.

@kirill_golubovskiy If you cannot find anybody interesting among designers, you can be the one who breaks the ice. You can e.g. explain things via MEMEs. And yes, definitely make it more available to English-speaking audience. Higher chances of being seen internationally.

Adam Martelletti

Building a personal brand definitely takes consistency, we even built our product around that idea to help stay on track. Still, I fall off some weeks too.

My main platforms are my two blogs, Reddit, LinkedIn, and I’m just getting started here on Product Hunt 😄

@adam_martelletti Which product are you working on? :) aaaa, we already connected on LI :)

Adam Martelletti

@busmark_w_nika  Haha yeh, figured I’d connect on LI since you said you’re active there too!

We’re building @EazySites , technically a website builder, but really it’s a system for creators who want to publish with focus.

We limit things on purpose, one site, one cadence, six content themes, because too many get lost in AI noise and SEO games. We’re here to help people build momentum, stay consistent, and create for humans not algorithms.

Nika

@adam_martelletti Do you have any updates about your product? E.g. next launch or so?

Adam Martelletti

@busmark_w_nika Appreciate you asking! We shared EazySites here a few months back, but still figuring out how to actually use Product Hunt to connect, not just launch.

We’ve since gone live and are putting together a small lifetime deal, more to get thoughtful feedback than to chase signups.

Trying to learn from our core users: people building a personal brand through meaningful content, and actually hitting publish, not just leaving drafts behind.

Curious if you’ve seen anyone do that well here?

Divine Abagolu

I understand this perfectly, with so many things to do, one could easily get overwhelmed. How about you try creating a schedule for SM platforms and work with that to see if it helps?

Nika
Ambassador

@divine_ Good point, the thing is that I aim to focus primarily on PH, LI, X – for presence, visibility, getting reac,h and Substack and YouTube to be platforms where the promotion happens. So PH, LI and X help me to monetise Substack and YouTube! :)

I have been finding it hard to keep up with building our product along with brand, usually missing out on replies to my contacts for months 😅.

Some tips would be helpful here 🙂

@zeeshan3650 What are your main social media? Or better question: where is your target audience? (I suppose you did some research.)

Michael O'Connor

Having too many notifications to keep up with is an accomplishment many of us are still working towards. 😂😀

Which platforms depends on your goal or business, right? Different networks make sense for B2B, B2C, creative or tech, etc.

Nika

@oconchobhair I think that media presence on as many as possible are crucial for selling sponsorships :)

LinkedIn and Twitter predominantly, because there are B2B and makers who want to make their brands visible :)

Ramit Koul
I used to be very active on PH but nowadays, it seems to have lost its soul and so, I am trying to be more active on twitter now. Linkedin is good but it’s also getting a lot of AI slop posts and fake influencers which somehow its algo seems to promote unlike twitter. I believe, for personal branding, twitter and youtube are the best.
Nika

@ramitkoul Interesting, I perceived more Bots on X than LinkedIn. Or am I only in the right LI circles? :D

Kaustubh K

I'm focused on : LinkedIn, X, Reddit and now PH

I usually respond to messages across all the platforms before starting serious work. I usually cross-post content across all the platforms and personalise it to match the audience.

I manage everything by myself; and avoid AI to create my posts.

Nika

@kaustubhkatdare Respect! I know it is not easy, and how much time it takes, so admire your initiative even more :)

Kaustubh K

@busmark_w_nika thank you, Nika. What impresses me is your consistency on PH. How did you get that Ambassador badge?

Preet Mishra

Hi, Nika! I relate to the problem deeply. I'm mostly active on X, but I'd like to be active on LinkedIn too. I'm actually building a tool for myself to take care of LinkedIn to start with. I made the waitlist live yesterday. I'd love your thoughts on it: Reachbun.

Nika
Ambassador

@preetmishra I would try to shorten the message, e.g. 10x reach increase with that content that matters. Or something like that. + I am not so sure whether PH gave you some pre-launch badge, but feel free to use it. I am on the waitlist already :)

Preet Mishra

@busmark_w_nika Thanks for the feedback and for signing up! PH doesn't have any badges for the prelaunch. I'll improve the message further.

@preetmishra I am looking forward to your progress :)
