Can we add a DM feature to ProductHunt? Would anyone use this?

There are creators I would love to reach out to and network with within the platform for ease of access, logging, and sharing launch details.

Could we add the ability to DM fellow contributors on Product Hunt?

I would consider using it with some restrictions to reduce spam.

@steveb Maybe limit by DM credits like LinkedIn InMails. And do not allow adding clickable links. :)

@steveb  @rohanrecommends  I like this idea and may be allow earning of points through engagement, similar to kitty coins. There could also be a monetization opportunity here, where those DM credits could be bought by users.

@rohanrecommends or maybe invites to conversations and the receiver can approve or deny based on the initial message, maybe with filtering based on topics or likely spam

@steveb Twitter/X already solved the DM spam problem AFAIK, so PH could just copy that model

Hi Drew, great idea! A DM feature on Product Hunt would definitely make networking easier. However, I think there’s a risk of spam or even fraud if DMs are too open.


Also, since Product Hunt already lets users connect their Twitter or LinkedIn accounts, maybe it’s better to reach out there? It keeps things professional and avoids potential misuse. What do you think?
